I'm trying to decide whether I should apply for a Customer Service Assistant (Security) job on Network Rail or not. They list the salary as £17,000 per year, but they don't say anymore than that.

Does the salary for that job go up at all with seniority, and if so, by how much, and what is the top level amount?

It sounds like a good permanent position with plenty of room for advancement, but I need a clearer idea about the amount of money Network rail pays people in this job.

Thanks in advance for any information any of you can impart.

There isn't much wiggle room that far down the ladder.

There is scope for advancement in the internal jobs list, but the CSA ladder only really goes into station management. You be looking at quite a jump there.

NR is becoming an extremely hungry and meritocratic company though, and lateral moves are becoming the norm. Our two newest signallers came from CSA roles.

If it's money you're interested in, stations can be good, but only for the higher ups. Signalling gives a lot of opportunities with few barriers.

I recommend joining the company any way you know how and then getting a feel for what's right for you.

Thanks for the reply, but do you know if the salary goes higher than £17,000 per year with additional years of service? If so, how much does it go to, and how many years does it take to reach top pay in this specific job of CSA?

Thanks!

As was said in the other thread, the only increases will be the annual increases, which are around 2% at the moment.

Okay, thanks. Sorry for the mix-up. I assumed there was a series of salary steps for the first couple years before a CSA hit top pay.
