If he doesn't like the laws in our country then he can pack his bags and go somewhere else. Blimey, I sound like one of his fanboys. Ha ha.

Seriously, if he's saying its because of who he is and not what he's done does he honestly believe no one else gets done for contempt of court?

I don't think honesty and Tommy R have ever had much to do with each other. He is simply interested in creating his own fake version of the truth - that he was single handedly responsible for revealing child sex rings run by immigrants, that it would have all been covered up if he hadn't been brave enough to stand up for the righteous and that he is being punished by the establishment for having done it. Sadly there are a significant number of people who believe in him - not least in the USA, from what I can gather.

I notice that BBC 10 O'Clock News is now referring to him as 'Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson'.

He's obviously no longer useful then.

No other politician would have had their nom-de-plume indulged for so long.

You’re being generous by referring to him as a politician at all. Just a thug and common criminal.

Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Junior, Lenin, Stalin - there are many whose importance far exceeds that of Tommy Robinson!

Obsessing over his name is rather pointless I feel.

If he was originally Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, what is his legal name at the moment, because that's the only one that a court of law (and anyone reporting on the proceedings of one) should use.

The point is - who actually cares, and why?

I'm far more interested in what he has or hasn't done than his name. Nom-de-plumes, pseudonyms, stage names, call them what you will are far from rare.

If you aren't interested in his name, why are you posting so much about it? ;)

I think you miss the point that he deliberately wishes to hide his real name in order to appeal to his target audience.

I hope that the Judge doesn't jail Tommy/Stephen/Whatever he calls himself today because that's what he wants. Jail helps with his hard man image and his supporters will use his sentence as an example of 'free speech' being curtailed in the UK. Give him a community order instead, perhaps unpaid work in a Mosque or with an Islamic Community organisation?

Trouble is that jail is the appropriate punishment. You aren't serving justice any better by letting him get away with it because of the threats of his frankly not-very-large baying mob.

I think community service working with the Muslim community would be far worse for him than Jail. Inside he'll be segregated to protect him from the Muslim gangs, he'll probably be on the sex offenders wing and he'll have a single cell. He'll have a far easier time than most simply because if he's put with the general population, he's a dead man!

Because it intrigues me why people concentrate on the name rather than his actions and convictions. Argue against his words and acts, there's enough information to come to a conclusion he's a vile person if you want to (I do)

"He uses a different name" is, sorry, a really lazy argument.

I really don't miss that, I'm not stupid. His nom-de-plume is a blatant montage of "Tommy Atkins" and a stereotypical surname.

No it isn’t. He named himself after a notable hooligan from Millwall’s “crew”.

No it isnt. Please do some research. His current pseudonym is taken from a memeber of a Luton town hooligan gang

Very true that about the USA, he probably has more support there than he does here. I had a permanent falling out with an American friend after he started making out that Yaxley-Lennon was some kind of civil rights activist like Martin Luther King but fighting for white proles rights. It was laughable. Like white people in the US and UK are some kind of oppressed minority.

I found out recently that one of his other pseudonyms was Wayne King!

I saw that on his Wikipedia page and wasn’t sure if it was a joke or not.

Because it intrigues me why people concentrate on the name rather than his actions and convictions.

because the man is an obvious preening peacock who uses a pretend name to try and make himself more attractive to his knuckle dragging supporters who may be put off by a posh sounding double barrelled name. His fake name is much more "common man" than his actual name. It is a very British thing to mock affectation such as this. Plus it clearly winds him and his supporters up!

However you are right his words are more worthy of focus. Lets not lose sight of the fact this man is nothing more than common criminal.

Sentenced to 9 months for contempt of court. Less time already served amounts to a sentence of 19 weeks. He'll serve half that in custody, possibly some of which will be on electronic tag. The remainder will be on licence.

Have a nice summer holiday Stephen.

There is an interesting comment piece in the independent by an experienced criminal QC about yaxley-lennon and his contempt of court - it is worth a read

Meanwhile, all this is doing, is screening what actually went off in Rotherham. Tommy is a vile man followed by nut jobs mostly, but all this is doing is taking peoples attention away from the scum in Rotherham and other towns.

Was it this piece?

All of us are subject to the law of the land. That law includes the Contempt of Court Act 1981, which makes clear that nothing about an “active” criminal case can be published, if it “creates a substantial risk that the course of justice in the proceedings in question will be seriously impeded or prejudiced”.

This is the general rule and it applies to all stages of a criminal case from the moment a suspect is even arrested. Generally, the law does not prevent reporting events from inside the courtroom, provided that it amounts to a “fair and accurate report of legal proceedings held in public, published contemporaneously and in good faith.”

etc.

It's the sort of piece which I would like to put to a Yaxley-Lennon supporter because it is purely fact-based and I can't see any holes. I would be interested to see what the response would be.

That's one. I am on mobile so find linking hard.

The response would be: so why are all journalists not arrested? They really are quite thick and stupid people

Unfortunately with many of Yaxley–Lennon’s acolytes you’d very likely get glassed.

And who's fault is that? The grooming gangs were already widely reported and Yaxley-Lennon has made it all about him. Jailed for being a journalist! He can kiss my behind.

Thank you @DarloRich and @FelixtheCat for this, the article is indeed well thought through by someone who is clearly used to putting a case based on watertight evidence.

If I was way more cynical than I am, I might be suggesting that maybe acolytes of Mr Yaxley-Lennon might not be too unhappy if subsequent trials failed so they could complain that the courts were not protecting the vulnerable. It would be 'Traitors!' all over again.

Is that 'as well as' or 'instead of' the nine months sentence?

As well as and that is after he gets out. Quite unbelievable he thinks he is being picked on .If he doesn't like the law in this country he should be kicked out .Wow, I agree with him.
