I was shocked and saddened to hear earlier today that Tom Clift, who was Grand Central MD until earlier this year and previously Valley Lines MD, has passed away. He was also the owner of 26038, which made its debut runs in preservation earlier this year after a major restoration. RIP to a real railwayman.

Shocking news and a very great loss to the railway industry.
Thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew him.

Sad news indeed. My thoughts are with his family.

A huge loss to us all - a very good railwayman and friend , - (with a wonderful dry sense of humour) - many achievements in a long career.

Very very sad news indeed, I was very supprised to hear that too. Sadly another loss of probably one of the few great ex BR managers we have left and loved and believed in proper ex BR locos such as his beautifully restored 26. Unfortunatly i never had the chance to meet though, but he certainly sounded like a top man and top railwayman either. RIP Tom, your greatness will be missed! :(

Just like the late Trevor Dean, I hope Tom's wishes come to fruition & 26038 will be mainline registered.
