No services at the moment due to flooding at Walsden and Bus Replacements running Hebden Bridge-Rochdale but not calling at Walsden due to landslip on the main road near Walsden Station.

Does anybody know whether the above problems have caused any Neville Hill stock off Calder Valley line to be stuck on the Manchester side of the Pennines ie 158s.

Apparently there's a twice hourly Manchester-Littleborough service running at the moment although not sure whether this is using Newton Heath stock or stock that's normally used on Calder Valley line

If the A6033 Todmorden-Rochdale road is blocked by a landslip at Walsden, how are the rail-replacement buses getting through from Hebden Bridge to Rochdale?

Short video and news story at http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news...n-as-flooding-hits-with-a-vengeance-1-5902198

A MAJOR clean-up is under way after a flash flood burst through homes and swept away roads in a West Yorkshire community.

Homes and businesses in the Calder Valley were again hit by flooding following torrential rain.

Properties in Todmorden, where the Environment Agency’s flood sirens were sounded, were particularly badly affected after a heavy downpour left some spots under one-and-a-half feet of water yesterday evening.

The nearby village of Walsden was hit by up to 18in (46cm) of water last night after extremely heavy rain....

Looks like a considerable quantity of debris has been washed across the track just outside Walsden station.

Well, 2013 is with use, but these two areas once again have succumbed to the effects of heavy rainfall with road surfaces being damaged by the effects of the floodwater. Is a solution to this problem still beyond the ken of those concerned with remedial drainage of the valley ?

Wouldn't be that difficult to get stuck stock back to Neville Hill by tagging it onto a Vic-Huddersfield service

I presume the same route as service buses, via Mytholmroyd, up through Cragg Vale to the Blackstone Edge Reservoir, and then down into Littleborough and Rochdale.

Although I've been up by the reservoir during heavy rain to see the reservoir spilling out onto the road.

I know the 900 and the 901 buses go this way as far as the reservoir, but they turn left go to Huddersfield from there. What service bus service, that you make mention of, from Hebden Bridge goes up to the reservoir, then turns right to head into Littleborough then on to Rochdale ?

Always willing to have my bus service knowledge expanded.

Yes - I wondered about that route, as I've ridden the 900/901 route Paul mentions on several occasions.

I just thought that driving a full-length coach along the road from the A58 through Cragg Vale into Mytholmroyd might prove trickier than driving the usual shorter Optare Solos employed on the 900/901 route.

Of course, its all academic now as the line is open fully again, but should such a problem re-occur, wouldn't it be an idea, if the coaches do go that way, for the occasional one to continue on the A58 into Ripponden and Sowerby Bridge, allowing ongoing connections to Halifax etc from there? That would save passengers a double-back into Hebden Bridge for a train eastwards again.

Still, I appreciate it's always easier to sit in comfort at my computer and plan these things!

None. However, when there is a road closure between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden (not only due to flooding/snow, it's the same when there's an accident which sadly is all-too frequent), this is the route used in order to keep as much of the routes covered as possible. Buggers up the timetable completely but the drivers on the Calder Valley routes do tend to do what they can to assist when things have gone very wrong, which I would imagine is difficult for passengers to believe, but is true nonetheless...

It's not that bad, to be honest, the road is plenty wide enough even when much, much busier, as it is when Burnley Road is closed.

I can't see a reason why it couldn't happen, it would have the added benefit of not clogging up the turning area at Hebden Bridge station as well.
