Loads of 5mph restrictions over many open crossings unfortunately. I went down there on Tuesday and was bored stiff with the progress made.

I'd love to do the Dungeness branch (five miles max or not) but I always seem to just miss out on the railtours there

Cheers for the comments guys. The flask train really is a train that can photographed easily and more than once due to max speed of the line being 20mph, and 5mph over crossings as already mentioned. As can be seen from the photos I caught it 4 times!

The line itself is a little bit of a bore when on a railtour though lol, I did UK Railtours' 'The Ness Monster' and didn't find it particularly exciting. Was interesting to see many of the locations that I've visited from a train rather than from lineside though!

I suppose I've always been fasicnated with that line since I was child getting the thumpers between Ashford and Hastings. I've always loved the Romney Marsh as well, so to do the branch would be fairly special

Really miss the Thumpers on the Ashford to Hastings line! At least back then there was a better chance of getting a seat, unlike these days where a 2 car class 171 from Ashford to Hastings (and on to Brighton) just isn't enough!

Indeed - plenty of seats in a 3H A 205 would be my preferred traction down the branch for reasons of authenticity.
