I noticed the other day that two different ScotRail TVMs, one at a minor station, and one at Waverley, didn't ask for a card at any point when issuing my ToD tickets.

I might've tried the LNER TVM at Waverley but there was a sign informing me to go to the travel centre for tickets to London or beyond :D

Just to add a bit to the thread discussion that mainly happened in July. I have (vague) memory that various rail fare pundits used to advise that any card would generally be enough to retrieve TOD tickets, even when the online ticket seller stated in the purchase process that same card was required.

Now we have a real government intention to unify rail transport under GBR, shouldn't they look up from their snails pace progress and achieve a few first steps by setting unified standards for ticket purchase? Requiring a uniform process for retrieval of TOD tickets is one simple step. If that's too ambitious (!) they could require the likes of LNER to flag their intention to divert from the norm before customers hit the "pay" button.

I'm pretty sure that LNER make the requirements very clear before you get to paying. Don't get me wrong, they're out of step with the rest of the industry on ToD but they don't hide the fact.

Hello does anyone know if tickets purchased on the RSTL website require the same card for collection? I want to book some undiscounted tickets for a relative to collect in York, I am in Hayes, thanks.
Is your relative eligible for staff discounted travel? If not, then there isn't a reason to purchase through RSTL.

No they are not eligible I would be buying undiscounted tickets for them, I usually use the RSTL site as that's the one I am registered for.

I don’t believe RSTL requires a card to collect a ToD. Perhaps someone who has more experience in this area can confirm.

I can confirm that RST Online bookings are set to "No Card" collection by default, though not all TVMs (e.g. the Worldline FAST and Cubic Electra machines used at Elizabeth Line and London Overground stations) have implemented the revised TOD flow yet, so still require a card to be inserted.

I'm not even sure that they were part of the project , I can't remember them being mentioned at any point.
It's in the spec (RSPA2016), every TIS must comply by August 2025. Either they're an accredited TIS or they aren't, it shouldn't depend on whether they get special funding as part of a specific project to do it or not.

Fair enough but RDG were in charge of the project that rolled these changes out and I can't for the life of me remember them including Cubic

So, they could (probably) turn off the functionality and remain fully accredited, which would be more inconvenient for users.

Yeah, potentially - which also doesn't sit right. Unless I'm mistaken, a lot of those TVMs are at stations that don't have gate E-Ticket support. I feel like there should be a requirement to do one (support ToD properly) or the other (E-Tickets) at every station. They're not exclusively used by Londoners relying on CPAY/Oyster.

All agreed, but doing ToD badly is better than not doing it at all.

There's considerable issues with these TVMs which TOCs have raised repeatedly to RDG who seem completely inept in their ability to do anything
Not just TOCs, TPRs have too for various bad bad things they do...

Evoke TVMs at Luton Airport Parkway have been updated to ask for the collection code first, so I'm guessing Worldline FAST TVMs now function the same way.

Given FAST has effectively been replaced by the WL/Evoke Kiosks, I doubt there's any development taking place on it other than security fixes.

It appears you're right. I travelled to Bushey yesterday and the Overground-branded TVM there (Pinner Road entrance) still asks for the card first.

Still no change to the Electra TVMs either, for that matter.
