Went to collect some tickets from the TVM at Kemsley just now,and it went through all the motions, but when it came to the printing it didn't work and a message came up to contact the ticket office. Will they still be on the system as uncollected, and I can collect them when I go to the station at Sittingbourne, or am I going to have to allow time for the hassle of getting the ticket office to sort it out?

I'm not very happy about this as last time I used it I only got one half of a return ticket out of it, and I had to spend my time giving explanations every time I needed to show my ticket. This was on Monday and it appears it still has not been fixed. Also, what is even more annoying is that there is NOTHING displayed on the machine to say it is out of order!

It depends. It could be that the tickets printed but failed to drop into the collection chute (in which case the ticket office won't be able to reprint them) or it could be a fault on the machine that has left them in the system able to be reprinted.

What happened when you got to the ticket office?

I had that problem with a Northern TVM once. It printed a collection receipt and then flashed up a message saying it could not complete the request. I went to the ticket office and the man in the ticket office was able to print the tickets.

I haven't been to the ticket office yet. I won't be going that way until I make the journey I need the ticket for on Monday.

There is no ticket office at Kemsley.

Which leads me to another question I've just thought of: I've paid for the journey from Kemsley to Sittingbourne, but I won't actually have a ticket to make that journey since the TVM would not give me a my tickets. So what's the position?

Sounds like its attempted to print and failed, which means its likely that it , if you go to a ticket office, theres a simple form to fill out before the tickets can be remade!

Thanks, but what about the journey that I've paid for but don't have a ticket for?

It seems to me that having that machine there is more trouble then it's worth. Because it's presence presumably means that now there is an obligation to purchase a ticket there, but if it goes wrong there is no one there to sort it out! Where as before I just bought on the train or at the most convenient ticket office.

What would happen if I was just to take the journey as planned, starting at Kemsley, and sort it out when I get to Victoria? There is not enough time between trains at Sittingbourne to do anything.

They journey is tomorrow so most of those are not option. I tweeted them and they told me to speak to the conductor on the train. Not sure what they're going to do about it since I doubt they have the facilities to issue me my tickets?

It would be astonishing for the software to know that the tickets had been printed but not dropped. For the error message the OP saw, the tickets will not have printed on this occasion - although that doesn't rule out printing on a previous occasion if this wasn't the first time of trying.
