TOC's transfers/moving

Hi Everyone, hope you're all well.

I'm posting today to gather some useful information from the wider railway community regarding moving to a TOC.

I'm considering moving up North in the Avanti/Northern region. Most TOC's have a specific 60 minute rule living away from the depot/station at the time of applying, but my question is this to put it simply. Which TOC's don't have this limit?

Thank you

TOCs vary. In the past I've applied for long distance jobs, being very specific in stating that I would be prepared to relocate if successful.
2 granted me interviews, 1 was interested but then their recruitment lost my documentation and claimed I'd not sent it, and 2 were strict and refusing even people who would and could relocate.

Yes, Northern were one I looked at but realised that they wouldn't entertain the idea - even from someone previously qualified as a guard...!

They have been burnt too many times by people promising to move and then refusing to do so unfortunately, spoiling it for the people who are genuine.
I mean - all they need to do is put a condition in a contract, if the employee has not moved within 6 weeks after starting then they are let go during the probation period.

I can understand this, mind you. Where I am currently, my line manager had had to deal with someone who promised they'd relocate from 2hrs away. Turns out they didn't which messed up his department and the company had to find somewhere closer to home for the applicant as he'd been fully vetted etc.

I'm a free spirit, currently I am single (hurray for survival mode) and no children so I can uproot and move within a month once a new address has been found but I can appreciate people with partners and kids would have to seriously consider it and there are more factors that could go wrong.

It's far easier to say no to people relocating and hire local applicants instead. It would be madness to have such a clause after investing six months worth of training, route learning, assessing etc, just to bin then off when they refuse to move.

I'm pretty sure with Northern, if your postcode is outside of the 45 minute radius, it automatically gets rejected and doesn't get seen by a person.
That's what is says on the application process anyways, along with not meeting other strict H&S requirements e.g. colour vision

Does anybody know how you do go about relocating to a new area and a new TOC, especially as a train driver? Is it just a case of having to move first and hoping to get the job?

Some companies such as tpe give a box to tick to say willing to relocate
