I've recently had an interview for Northern which I failed to reach the next stage.

I really want to get into this sector and would like to know that I'm checking all the TOCs where I can be based in Newcastle upon Tyne, I have the following and wondered if I've missed any?

Northern Rail
Cross Country
Virgin Trains
East Coast
Transpennine Express

Thanks in advance.

You've not missed any (though you might consider Tyne and Wear Metro) but you have added one! Virgin don't service Newcastle.

Not them. Virgin don't serve Newcastle. Otherwise your list is right. (Don't forget DB Regio who run the T&W Metro.)

You do see Scotrail trains in Newcastle, but Scotrail doesn't serve Newcastle itself - the trains are operated by Northern crews as part of a joint service.

Many thanks, I've been checking on the Nexus website for the Tyne and Wear Metro.

I'll stop checking on Virgin too, appreciate that info.

It's definately worth considering, will look into it cheers. (might just be a bridge too far tho, crossing the tyne for work is usually a nightmare)

Grand Central aren't recruiting as far as I am aware, dont quote me on that though...I was looking on there website a few days ago, and they said there were no vacancies. Although they do have a downloqdable application form which can be sent back and kept on file

Depends on what sort of job you are looking for. DB Regio have just taken on a whole load of Customer Service Advisors and there has been a recent intake of drivers (and more going through the shortlisting process).

Nexus are taking on people to work in permanent way, you'll need to search through Reed Engineering for the vacancies.

Unfortunately as far as the CSA roles go, they will only be taking more people on to cover those who have changed jobs or retired. As for the drivers, as ever it will be a case of wait and see.

yeah sorry to say mate, but you've just missed the boat with DB for metro drivers, they have just sent out letters for the first interview. I thankfully got mine today.

Keep an eye on Nexus jobs home page though as it'll come up again no doubt in a while.

Also freight companies like DB Schenker, Freightliner, DRS (?), yes impossible to get a driving job with them as an external but sometimes they advertise for other roles.

Might be another few years for the driving positions on the Metro, there is currently a group who are undergoing training, a group who have just finished their training, and the intake for next year.
