And that's it. C2C is now the second operator to be nationalised under DFTO as part of GBR preparations.

Interesting. I asked this on another thread, but I wonder if every train will get that sticker - they're probably 'worthy' of the GBR brand.
Stickers cost money, so I doubt it.

I wonder if uniting track and train means that c2c will have to merge with Greater Anglia, in order to match the Network Rail Anglia region.

Probably once GBR is set up. It would make sense to merge the two, what with their similar fleets (720s) and the NR region. I don't know if they'll do it when GA 'comes aboard' simply because they kept the c2c MD, though there is a suggestion in this article (https://www.railmagazine.com/news/c...-second-operator-is-nationalised-under-labour) that there might be a reshuffle. So, maybe a merger - would the merged operator have 2 MDs?

No immediate management changes are expected for now, but there could be some reshuffling once the neighbouring Greater Anglia (GA) operation is taken over on October 12.

West Midlands Railway (and London Northwestern Railway) are next to be nationalised, on 1st February 2026.

Today (Monday 28 July 2025) the Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed that West Midlands Trains – operator of services under the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway brands - is set to transfer to public ownership on 1 February 2026.

One thing I do wonder with this nationalisation is whether more power will be given to Transport for West Midlands over WMR and LNWR will become more separate. How much power does TfWM have anyway?

It's an interesting question, though in BR days it was a partnership between Regional Railways and the PTE, so that may simply be replicated again.

I certainly hope so. Urban Core PTEs need much more control of their services, within the context of regional and national requirements. However, my worry is intra and inter regional services suffer as HS/IC and Urban PTEs dominate the political landscape.

I was wondering (and don't know where else to ask) - Heidi Alexander has been saying that the legislation for GBR will be introduced to Parliament later this year. Any ideas on when? And what will the effect be?

Consultation is still ongoing according to the Gov website (however this consultation period was only due to run until 15th April, so unsure how up to date that is)
This consultation will then be used to form the Railways Bill, whenever that may be out forward.

You can find out more information here (I think this is the right link)

Thank you! It now says that the outcome is coming soon, and that the consultation has closed. Let's hope we can see something soon.

It's not been announced any more precisely, though exact introduction date doesn't matter much. Introduced in this context will only mean it has started going through the process to become law. Primary legislation has to go through commons, lords and then gain royal assent. While simple or urgent bills can go through relatively quickly, this isn't one of those and the process often takes nearly a year from introduction.

Actually implementing the bill: preparing the new body and transfer of powers can only start after royal assent (to avoid bypassing the will of parliament) which is expected to add another year. Before royal assent some activities could be done, Shadow GBR is essentially the DfT exercising its control over existing bodies to work together more as part of their individual remits.

The bill itself will largely focus on setting up the new body, funding mechanism and transfer of powers from other bodies. It may also include many consequential amendments to other legislation or those may come in separate secondary legislation which is quicker to pass. It's unlikely to indicate much about how it would be structured, aside from perhaps how conflicts of interest between its functions will be managed.

With less than a month left until GA is renationalised, is anything happening? Does GA have TUK stickers on their fleet?
