My understanding is that TOC online journey planners attempt to take account of the Routeing Guide, but the journey planners at station information desks simply show the fastest way of getting from A to B at a particular time.

Can the latter (or similar) be accessed online? Thanks

The National Rail Enquiries site provides journey options which do not conform to the routing guide as it'll tell you that more than one ticket is required for a particular journey.

Sorry for hijacking, but this is a real bugbear of mine at my local station.
Is there a way to get around the system with different routes? I usually travel Parbold to Euston Via Manchester for cheaper advances sacrifing time for a longer journey) yet Parbolds system only ever brings up via Wigan. I have some rail vouchers that need using up come April and I can never find advance tickets at suitable times for as cheap as I do via Manchester

Another option is to use any WebTIS-based site and after entering details of your journey, instead of clicking on "Search" at the bottom click instead on "Timetables only". This does not look up fares and does not check whether the route it has come up with is valid on a point-to-point ticket between the origin and destination stations.

Kind of...The internal "Journey Planner" service provided by Fujitsu does show the fastest journey but it also takes the routeing guide into account in the fares list at the bottom of the results, showing a red cross beside any that aren't valid. This can result in it showing crosses for every single ticket.

There's also a "Get Journeys" feature, whereby you select a ticket and it'll show you journeys for which that ticket is valid.

Using Traveline or Transport Direct will give you the quickest route regardless of routeing guide.

I use an app called NetNav which uses the same planner but is tailored towards the West Midlands so it doesn't include London Underground or buses outside the West Midlands, but is an excellent app for local journey planning.

Thanks for these helpful answers. Does anyone know if bahn.de takes account of the Routeing Guide?
