A story that may (or maybe not) true.
In my student days, I took part-time jobs working on construction sites during the holidays. One of my worksite colleagues had been involved in building the main depot workshop building at Tinsley yard, in Sheffield. He told me a story which is hard to believe, but here goes. The press were invited to the grand opening ceremony and a locomotive was going to enter the shed, to break a ribbon across one of the entrance doors. The shed internal tracks went over a series of underfloor inspection pits and the rails were only installed the day before. The photographers captured the moment, but then the track collapsed due to the concrete not being fully hardened and the loco tipped over into the pit! All camera film was seized and nothing more was said about the unfortunate incident in the press. It would be interesting to collaborate this story, if other witnesses could be found!.
