I Feel sorry for the people booked on the trip

Unfortunately, this is one reason why I am hesitant about booking on RTC promoted tours if it involves anything other than a day trip away.

Wouldn't RYTC do compensation of some kind to the passengers who booked this trip? For example at the very least refund some of the cost of the ticket back to the customer. Honestly after 2 cancelations I would want my money back. I can understand if they triple headed this and the passengers are willing to stick it out but don't see why double headed steam is any special.

I am led to believe this cancellation has been caused by a Fire Bridge Union strike. I would assume (I'm not an expert on these things) that NR won't allow the trip to operate with Steam if there is no FB cover available should something happen whilst the trip is operating (lineside fire etc)

Nothing to do with water stops.
It's exactly as Crawley Ben has posted. There is at least one other train cancelled this weekend for the same reason.

how about the Dorset coast express last year or the Capitals Christmas express. every year there is an impressive list of steam specials using the Bournemouth line but more are cancelled than run. If its not a drought, its the fireman's strike or pathing issues

I think the Capitals Christmas Express was axed because of engineering work, something to do with paths (probably a reduction in paths available overall because of the engineering work)

and? Should a service train be cancelled to facilitate a steam charter? The real world is slightly more than a show ground for puffer buffer specials. :roll:

So where is the suggestion that a charter train has priority over a service train. That pathing issues can cause cancellation of a charter would suggest otherwise

In your precious post you seem to be suggesting that the steam train should run regardless of issues - If there are pathing issues stopping a charter running, and you think it should run, clearly the service train causing the issue cant.

As for the other issues, well you kind of need water to run a steam train or put out the fire caused by the steam train.

That is not my intention. The OP commented on the number of times the Tin Bath has been rescheduled and I have commented on the number of times the Dorset Coast Express has been cancelled likewise for the aforesaid reasons

The issue with steam between London and weymouth/swanage is that a single tender does not have enough water capacity for the enrire journey, only the A4 with double tender could do this.

Last one I did with Steam Dreams was a fire engine doing the filling on a water stop, just before Severn Tunnel Junction. Granted, it was some old G reg fire engine that had probably been dragged out from the back of the station that they wouldn't normally use in emergencies.

That belongs to Bells & Two Tones and is not a fire brigade vehicle. See http://www.bellsandtwotones.co.uk/our-fleet. If you see what appears to be a fire engine watering a steam loco it'll be them.

The fire brigade would generally only come out to water a steam loco in an emergency situation.

Ahh that's why, ERF rings a bell. There was another fire engine at Caerphilly once to top up the coaches water tanks. (Taffy Tug tour I think?)
