Ooh, boy that looks sweet!

Nice shots lads. Does anyone know what the white on the wheels is for? I've often pondered about it...

Jules, the white is for decoration, same with white/silver polished buffers.

And a lot of trouble it is too (which is probably why it's a dying tradition). Requires the loco to be put over a pit and the inside face of the wheel to be marked as a check for shifted tyres.

Ahhh so that would be the western I passed in New street north tunnel last night. It had certainly laid down a thick cloud of clag in there which was a worry as I was following an ECS on yellows at the time (Yes, typical new street PSB regulating, class 1 behind a class 5 with the 5 running in my time slot!:roll: )

Stunning looking photo's there, bet it was cold waiting for it?! ;)

Nice pics there chaps8-) was a top tour although holyhead was the usual sxxx hole status! we managed to find a good chippy and a bench overlooking the deserted harbour!

The driving all day was very much 'Western' style although he couldn't get his starts right and thought he had a rake of stone wagons behind him 'yank!':shock: When Tony got his hands on it nice smooth but rapid departures ensued!8-)

Couldn't believe how much manchester has changed since i was last there! enough flats being built to house the entire population! and that little mole hill was demolished by the western!!;)

Where did Midi take over the reigns, on the return somewhere weren't it? Who was drivining the rest of the day, a Saltley man?

Banbury. Was another Acton man with a Bescot route conductor for at least part of the return journey up to Banbury.

Saltley is rather busy with ballasts at the moment!

Well that was a first, the first time that I have been to Holyhead and not been bored to death waiting for the return journey :shock:

A few pics HERE , a good move to go for the dining option with weather like that - could concentrate on taking pictures rather that finding and eating food.

Filling the void at Tyseley? Been great this last week when heading back home, normally I have to wait for the train to arrive at either Moor St or Snow Hill, all last week it was in at Moor St 20 minutes before departure so I could sit in the warm rather than standing on the platform! Also due to no Chilterns meant Lm operated the 07:25 ex Langley with a 150 vice Chiltern 168 so I had some 150 thrash rather than a boring 168 8-)

kestrel, I'm curious (as I never found it when I've been to Holyhead), where was that chippy you guys found and was it much good?

Aha!;)

As you come out of the rail station just follow the road that runs alongside and you'll see all the chippies on your left, the one we went to was up one of the roads before the car park at the end;),jus follow the road round and you'll see the harbour and mile an a half sea defence wall where the class 01's used to work many moons ago you can eat your chips there an watch the view;)

Thanks for the quick answer! I'll do my first photo stop of my UK trip there, on friday 27th, hopefully arriving with the 14:38 from Birmingham International. (if my flight from Bratislava isn't late...)

@matt: I'm looking at you photos at the moment - is it possible to get to Cossington without a 1.2 miles walk from Sileby?

A rather long walk I think, although all the times I've been there is in the car

I was there last Saturday :)
