Just wondering if anyone has come across this before and what the reason might be?
I travelled from Fratton to Ashford last weekend on Saturday. The ticket was booked for me by someone using Trainline. The booking confirmation clearly stated the 10:37 Southern service to Victoria changing at Barnham (on the 11:17 from Barnham to Victoria arriving at 12:44). These were split save tickets so the second ticket was from Victoria to Ashford at 13:10
When the tickets printed from the TVM, they had an 11:17 service from Fratton to Victoria printed on them saying I had to use that particular service. This service didn't exist but there was a Southern service at 11:19. This would have got to Victoria at 13:14 after the 13:10 had departed.
I've never come across this before - the platform staff at Fratton initially suggested you had to get the service printed on the ticket but didn't have an answer for what had gone wrong (fair enough) or seem to realise that it would mean the second ticket wouldn't be possible to use. In the end they suggested speaking to the guard.
The guard didn't even glance at the ticket when they checked but I've never seen a) a ticket print for an entirely different train to the one booked or b) a ticket print for a train which doesn't exist (as far as I can tell it hadn't been rescheduled).
Is it just a very odd glitch in the matrix or is there a set of circumstances where this is known to happen?
