Tickets on Departure - how long?

If I book an Off-Peak return now from Oxted to London through the Southern website for departure at 10:23 will they be available from the machine by that time, just the Southern site says they take 2 hours.

On Southern? Should be available within a minute or two, but it won't let you book that departure as it thinks it needs two hours.

You can book a later service though and use the ticket at 1023. Or you could, y'know, keep the ticket office guys in a job

There's an on-line discount of 10% for off-peak tickets so I'd be tempted to go for that

Southern is usually very quick, longest I had to wait was about 30 mins ... and that was only once.

Virgin Trains takes one hour minimum (haven't ever seen it any quicker).

I think South West is also pretty quick.

London Midland are quick too. I've bought tickets and collected them within 15 minutes, it may have quicker but it took me that long to get to the machine

Those using thetrainline's engine (you will see "buytickets" in the URL, includes South West Trains, Grand Central, and Virgin) take longer.

What he said really. Fancied a day out and in the time it took me on the vic line from the stow to st pancakes me portas tickets were ready and waiting.

They are still a steal at that price, even the obm asked me how I knew they were being extended as he hadn't seen one for weeks!

Tickets booked with WebTIS sites should be available immediately, and I have done this a few times. Tickets booked with TTL-powered websites can take more than 2 hours, despite their promises, and I have experienced this on a few Sundays, as apprently the bookings have to be made available for collection manually.

MTT-powered sites (Northern, etc) claim to be available in 15 minutes, however my one experience with them suggests that tickets are available in no more than 5 minutes.
