Ticket to Exeter St Davids, on to Exeter Central ?

Have a ticket/reservation from Newquay NQY up to Exeter St Davids EXD for next weekend.

Newquay train should arrive very conveniently for an on train to Exeter Central EXC (saving the trudge across the NW of the city).

Is a ticket to EXD valid to EXC too or will I need to buy a 90p Single/£1 Off Peak Day Return [CDR] between the two ? (The ticket is printed as to EXETER ST DAVIDS.)

Your ticket is to Exeter St Davids, not 'Exeter Stations' so to be correct you'll need to buy the extra ticket to take you on to Exeter Central

You will need a new ticket, or an overdistance excess to Exeter Central. Depending on the ticket held, the excess is likely to cost nothing but could be a hassle to obtain.

Thanks for the prompt responses guyz.

I expected that was the case - ie needed another ticket - but never quite understand if/when '... Stations' appears on tickets and or implications of 'Groups' etc, which is where all your advice is so helpful. Thanks again!

Try to obtain an excess, simply ask at the ticket office before boarding at Newquay (if such facility exists) or the on train staff to issue excess to Exeter Central. Should be cheaper than buying a separate single

Just FYI, there is no Exeter Stations (or its equivalent) and has not been for some time. It disappeared at the time, BR days IIRC, when separate fares were introduced for the two routes to London, one being Inter City and the other NSE. The issue was to do with ticket types, as NSE had Network Awaybreaks and everywhere else Savers, so they were basically not compatible.

Not sure about this as my memory is fuzzy but I *think* the NAB was available London - Central via Honiton and the Saver London St Davids via either route. Also in the fuzziness, I think at one time there were, in effect, no London - Central fares via Taunton. In practice nobody much cared locally and I think booking to St James Park at the same price did the trick.

Depends what type of ticket you have. If it's an Advance then I'm sure you'd just have to buy the extra ticket.
