Ticket query Crewkerne - Newcastle

I’ve been looking at ticket options for Crewkerne- Newcastle return via LNER. 2 Super off peak singles work out at £154.10 with a Senior Railcard.
I ‘ve previously looked up the Crewkerne-Glasgow fare which is £153.50 for an Off peak return again with Senior Railcard.
If I booked this ticket am I correct in assuming I could stop and start short at Newcastle?
Although I haven’t checked I also feel it may give me some additional routing options.

I think you should check those fares again. The Glasgow fare is for 1 person.

I make it £153.80 and £154.10, I take it the two singles are one there and one back?

Yes - the Off peak single are for the outward and return journey for 1 person

The £153.80 "any permitted" ticket does not allow break of journey on the outbound leg, IE at Newcastle. It's a permitted route, PY + YG in the routeing gude. See https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ticket-types/validity/5f/

Crewkerne has routing points Exeter and Salisbury, and I only looked up Exeter-Glasgow, which has routes defined by maps at https://data.atoc.org/routeing-maps:

• MP + CG
• MP + CG + GK
• PE
• PE + GK
• PY + YG

The last above gives a route valid via Newcastle.
But the ticket has to allow break of journey etc. which this particular one doesn't.

For completeness, Salisbury-Glasgow is valid via

• LONDON
• BW + BE
• BW + BE + GK

Essentially Birmingham & WCML for the last two above.

The unsurprising LONDON routeing means Crewkerne-Salisbury-London and London-Glasgow can be considered separately and the +ANY PERMITTED ticket includes cross-London transfer.
