Ticket prices when engineering works change route

What’s the general principles re ticket prices when engineering works force a different journey ?

Should prices be the same as the ‘usual’ journey, or are there examples where a higher price can be charged ?

As I said previously this isn’t about a specific journey, and details aren’t relevant.

As closed sections of route are generally covered by rail replacement buses, there would be no difference in price.
Nobody forces you to make a different journey. It is your choice to book an alternative route.
Engineering work has to be done. It is a fact of life.

When Oyster payg was first introduced on National Rail back in 2010, I was travelling from Croydon-Kings Cross. The Thameslink core was shut, so I had to go Croydon-London Bridge-Northern Line, which of course meant I was charged more than the direct Thameslink fare. I argued for a refund of the tube supplement but was told I'd been charged correctly and never got the extra back.

In general you should be able to make the journey for the same price you would normally pay.

Is there a particular example where you have found this to not be possible?

Buses don’t run out of central London stations. Many examples where passengers are forced to take a different route.

Not good is it.
