Ticket Journey Break Question.

Hi folks,

On Friday I'm going to be going from Prestwick Town (PTW) to Edinburgh Waverley (EDB), but will be picking up a friend at Motherwell (MTH)

So my plan hopefully is the following:

1455 PTW-MTH [SR] (alighting at motherwell) and then getting:
1716 MTH-EDB [XC]

I got an Off-Peak Return PTW-EDB with Route Any Permitted.

Am I allowed to break the journey at Motherwell, I think so but not totally sure

I don't have time to check the official docs but I can't see any problem with that. Generally speaking tickets valid between Glasgow and Edinburgh are valid by any of the four routes so Motherwell is fine AIUI.

Good good, I just wasn't sure as I've never traveled with CrossCountry before

The ticket does not prohibit break of journey, and Motherwell is on a permitted route - this is fine

Follow-up question if I may, what do I say if the Ticket Examiner on the first train (PTW-MTH) wishes to do their little squiggle on the ticket as they sometimes like to do, cause then I would have issued using it on the second train.

That is fine. You can use it on the second train.

If you like, you could tell him that you would be breaking your journey at Motherwell. He might annotate differently, or it might have no impact on how he marks your ticket. Doesn't affect validity though.

As long as the ticket is still within it's validity period, it doesn't really matter what a ticket examiner squiggles.

Ahh, I always thought the squiggle was to say that the ticket has been used so it cant be used on another train

Only if they write so much on it as to make the printing illegible. Generally speaking, a ticket remains valid until either (a) you reach your destination; or (b) 04:29 on the day after the 'Valid until' date.
