Rather frequently over the past few months, I have seen Southeastern-uniformed ticket inspectors checking tickets on Thameslink services. I assume they have GTR's permission to do this, but it made me question, as a passenger, am I expected to understand that this is the case? Who else should I reasonably assume has the authority to check my tickets on a Thameslink service, TfL staff, Avanti, Network Rail, BTP, etc. I genuinely have no idea. I had assumed that certainly whilst onboard, I would only ever be challenged by an employee of the operating company who had an ID to match. Does anyone know what the actual criteria is?
