Ticket help - Euston - Elstree & Borehamwood (& back & back!)

This Saturday I'm getting the train down from Manchester Picc to Euston, will need to drop my bags off at my hotel in Elstree & Borehamwood, then head back to Euston before heading back to Elstree & Borehamwood later in the evening. Is there a ticket that will cover me for said journey, or will I need to buy a single and a return?

Elstree & Borehamwood is in zone 6, so a one-day Travelcard will do it, or you can use contactless and benefit from daily capping. Either will also cover any additional travel within London on the same day.

Elstree and Borehamwood is on the Thameslink line which runs through St Pancras, Euston to St Pancras is a ten minute walk above ground or one stop on the Northern Line, alternatively you can take the Northern line from Euston to Kentish Town and join the Thameslink train there.

Is a Manchester Stns->Elstree and Borehamwood journey possible "not via London". There does seem to be such a fare available. If so, what would be its routeing? Via Chesterfield?

Euston LU to Elstree & Borehamwood on contactless is £7.00 single
St Pancras to Elstree & Borehamwood with contactless is £5.20 single

The maximum daily cap is £16.30 which is the most you'll pay, regardless of how many journeys you make in zones 1-6.

Yeah probably via Sheffield, or via Bletchley-Bedford potentially.

Or Nuneaton to Leicester, or Stoke to Derby. But it's not a journey I'd recommend to anyone who doesn't have an appetite for changing trains.

The above covers the question as asked, but I make a suggestion - use LuggageHero app to store your luggage next to Kings Cross for not a lot - a few of the off-licences nearby take luggage as does a more "dedicated" place just over the road. This is assuming the only reason for going up to E&B is to drop luggage off. You also don't need the app; the dedicated place literally advertises it (can't really miss it) and they are up for negotiation.

(There's also left luggage at KGX/STP themselves but that's hideously expensive)

This will be both cheaper and easier than going up to Borehamwood and back. The only real exceptions I can think of is luggage that is so valuable you cannot leave it at one of these places (yet also non-valuable enough that you can hotel?) or if you were going up to Borehamwood anyway (I used to work in Elstree proper and I do not think there was a single actual hotel/B&B although I could be wrong, although the Village Hotel Watford/London is probably best described as Elstree maybe).

The OP referred to Elstree & Borehamwood, and there are a number of hotels in the latter - Premier Inn, Travelodge, Doubletree by Hilton, for example.

Sure, I was just saying there aren't any in Elstree that I could think of, they're all in Borehamwood. I think that's reasonably clear from my post considered in totality but maybe not.

When I try the routing point calculator if I use a route of "any permitted" it tells me the only valid destination routing point is West hampstead thamelink and if I use a route of "not via london" it tells me there are no valid destination routing points.

For Manchester to West Hampstead thameslink, in addition to "LONDON" the routing guide offers

BM+BP+MI - WCML routes to birmingham or nuneaton. Then over to Leiscter and down the MML
MH+EM - Manchester to Stoke on trent, then across to Derby or Nottingham and MML routes from there.
MS+EM - Manchester to Sheffield, then MML routes from there.
NR+BM+BP+NI - Mostly the same as the first option, except it would also allow travel to birminham via the CLC to Warrington.
PR - Manchester to Sheffield, then MML routes from there. Seems to give less route choice than MS+EM

Aye I'm staying in one of those that's Borehamwood way - I obviously misread the proximity to the station when I was hastily booking it, 35 min walk rather than the 5 min walk I thought it was!!

When I looked on National Rail it gave an 'interesting' route involving 4 changes (and a walk from St Albans Abbey to St Albans City) - I won't be taking that one!

Chiltern to/from Wembley Stadium station is a good shout on an event day. Not as crowded as Wembley Park. Take a train to Marylebone, walk to Baker Street (takes 5 minutes) then Met/Circle/H&C to Kings Cross St Pancras, where you can pick up your luggage before continuing to Elstree & Borehamwood via Thameslink.
