Ticket for use on Paris Metro / RER

Hi everyone,

I am having a day trip on Eurostar to Paris in early September. I'd like to know if it's possible to buy a ticket that gives unlimited travel for 1 day on the Paris Metro / RER. If so, what do I ask for when I get there, and how much does it cost? Also, is it possible to buy such a ticket in advance, perhaps via an online channel?

Any advice / assistance etc. will be most gratefully received!

You can buy a Paris Visite ticket, which gives you unlimited travel on metro, RER and buses for an entire day for €10.55.

However, in my experience you are unlikely to get full value from such a pass. Whenever I spend the day in Paris I generally make no more than 3 metro journeys, as many of the main sights are within walking distance of each other (and you might want to make one journey on a river boat, which is not covered by the pass). If it's not too hot then it's quite possible to walk everywhere, as Paris is a lovely city.

A single ticket on the metro costs €1.70, or you can buy a carnet of ten tickets for €13.30. Obviously, a carnet is only going to be useful if you plan to return to Paris in the future.

No need of a Paris Visite ticket, which includes reduced fares to many museums. To juste travel, the daily ticket is Mobilis. For zones 1 & 2, a Mobilis ticket costs 6.60€. It is not sold online, but in all metro or RER stations at vending machines.

I noted that advert to Mobilis is not included in English pages of the RATP web site, just Paris Visites, it is not fair at all.

At least the ticket machines (down a level at Gare du Nord) are multilingual! Eurostar only sell single Metro tickets on board, and at a markup too.

They also sell the Visite in the departure lounge at St Pancras which at least avoids the need to queue up at Gare du Nord; unfortunately they only sell the zones 1 - 3 version which does not include Versailles...
