Today I recieved a very unfair fine from an extremely rude and aggressive tfl ticket inspector between Holborn covent garden this morning. I lost my oyster card en route to work, and I even had the receipt to prove I topped up, where I tapped in and the exact time, guy didn't bother to do anything other than give me a fine.
What are my chances of
a) successful appeal
b) suing tfl inspectors as it was embarrassing to be thrown off a train for their own fault
c) suing tfl in general for unfair dismissal off picc line stock?

So you're saying that you had a receipt for a top-up which also indicated the time that you touched in on your journey? How did you get that? Paper records of touch ins are only available from ticket offices and there are none on the Piccadilly line as far as I know.

Thus you are saying that when asked to provide a ticket or validated Oyster card you were unable to, and they issued you with a penalty fare. [it's not a fine as only a court can issue those]

a) unlikely. If your Oyster card is registered and you have had the balance transferred to a new card while getting the old one stopped then I guess they might possibly look favourably on you. No guarantees though.
b) no chance! How was it the inspectors fault that you had lost your Oyster?
c) no chance! You weren't complying with the conditions of travel.

a) You didn't have your Oyster card, so there's no grounds for appeal.
b) It was their fault you didn't have your Oyster card how, exactly?
c) Unfair dismissal?

None; you were issued a Penalty Fare, under circumstances which sound correct. If it's not yet been paid, I advise you pay it as soon as possible.

The view of many rail operators in the London & South East area is along the following lines:
"A Penalty Fare is a charge that [the operator] is allowed to make under the Regulations and Rules. It is not a fine, and anyone who is charged one is not being accused of avoiding, or attempting to avoid, paying their fare"
(source: Chiltern Penalty fare leaflet)

If you had been accused of evading the fare, a fine would be a possibility, but it would not have been issued by an inspector as they do not have that power. They would have taken your details and a fine would only result if the prosecution was successful.

You were not accused of evading the fare and were therefore not prosecuted. You were charged a higher than normal fare, which you are absolutely entitled to think is unfair and disproportionate, but is within the rules and is the correct action for the inspector to take, given the legislation in place.
b) suing tfl inspectors as it was embarrassing to be thrown off a train for their own fault
I don't see how you can sue for embarrassment. It is unclear what you deem to be "their fault".
c) suing tfl in general for unfair dismissal off picc line stock?
This doesn't make sense. "Unfair dismissal" refers to employment. It is not relevant here.

Penalty Fares are unfair in the opinion of many people, but that is irrelevant as they are legislated for; fairness does not come into it! What actually matters is whether or not they are issued correctly.

Chance of a successful appeal is small. You will need to have some very good arguments and evidence for them to believe your version of the story, eg. in the form MikeWh just described, and even then it is only discretionary.

As for the other two, forget it. If I were reading your complaint, I would have a laugh and ignore. You will likely get a couple of general sentences about your responsibility for keeping your Oyster safe, and that would be that.

a) Tiny. Take more care in future.
b) and c) Don't even think about it. I can't believe you would even mention either of those.

Those who are of the "the railway doesn't care when people complain" persuasion need to read threads like this to appreciate some of the nonsense that has to be waded through between genuine complaints!
