I've just finished my first week induction for the role of Ticket Examiner within ScotRail, so far so good!

Couldn't see any other specific threads here and thought I'd start one for any TE's (or anyone else, really) who want to share some interesting/ funny stories on the job or even just have a general place to converse!

It was advertised a few months ago, can't remember the specific date... training is for a couple of weeks

Ticket inspector as in purely tickets I.e. revenue, or are you going to be a full fledged conductor?

Ticket examiner only, there's quite a few conductors starting who did the induction too, mostly out of Edinburgh and Aberdeen

I received word last month that my interview was succesful but I would be held in a reserve pool. Did you get the job first time or did you go through the same?

Aye, I was the same as you... reserve pool and then once more positions became available they asked if I was still interested... hopefully something will come up for you shortly

Great thanks. How long were u waiting in the reserve pool? Did u contact them again or just wait on word?

I applied initially in 2017 so aye, it was a good while before this came up. They contacted me about it but there's nothing wrong with contacting HR every now and again

Morning Maradona10, I think I might’ve been on the same induction as you, I started on the 14th at Atrium and I’m goin to be a conductor in edinburgh. Any chance you can mention your real name (or if you don’t want to do it on the main board, feel free to send me a pm).

There were a few Motherwell boys that are out and about on the job now, it would be good to find out how they’re all getting on. Cheers

I am thinking of applying for the ticket examiner job which is currently advertised, i noticed it said there is a reduced salary do you know how long that is for?

the salary is reduced until you complete your 'rules', which is after a few weeks, then you are essentially signed off to go out into the big bad world of ticket examining.

my experience was 2 weeks at Atrium, going over an induction and health and safety, then out to the depot to shadow ticket examiners for around a week... after that it was getting signed off and on to full salary

I would highly recommend the job to anyone interested so good luck

I am currently on the reserve list for the exact job and station being advertised at the moment. What do you think are my chances of getting a start?

hopefully quite high as that's how I ended up getting the job

honestly? I've no idea, I guess it depends on available positions and how they decide to recruit.

I was waiting an age and pretty much forgot about being in the pool when I got contacted again... they clearly do hire via that route so stay positive and maybe even give HR a shout
