Hi, i had an issue it like this one

When i was going from London to Brighton. I didn't renew my season ticket i thought i can buy it when i get to brighton.

But when i arrived there they ask me ticket and i said want by then one guy said go and by one in messine next one said "No" and said give me your detail, i was panic i had my photo card, they taken my name from that and ask me address i gave my temporarily address ( i was panic panicking again becouse of covid-19, there are no passenger around me at the station). I'm staying on that address for easy to go work on this covid situation.

When they finished registering all i signed on it. After in few minutes i went to them i asked them to change my postal(permanent) address he noted on another note book but not change in original. Also i'm not sure he written my date of birth also right. Guys what i'm worrying- if they found that faulty address ( from original) do i get any criminal record for this?

Giving a false address is a criminal offence under s.5 Regulation of Railways Act. Any correspondence could go to either address.

There’s a couple of issues here:

1) Will you be in trouble for giving the wrong address? I don’t know the answer to this one- sorry!
2) How can you make sure that the railway stay in touch with you? I think that this is actually more important in that if the railway do decide to punish you for not having a ticket, then if you don’t respond you could be fined in your absence. There are ways to sort this out, but it is easier to avoid it happening in the first place. So make sure you get to see any post sent to you either at your permanent address or your temporary one. That might mean asking someone who is at those addresses to pass them on for you. When you finish at your temporary address, then unless there’s someone who you can rely on to pass the mail on, it may be worth getting the Royal Mail to redirect your post.

Yes, you now need to set this up for the address you will not be at when you move
https://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/redirection

You need to respond to any letters sent to you about this.

Not doing this significantly increases the chances of you getting taken to court without you being aware and you ending up with a criminal record. Engaging with them reduces (but does not eliminate) this chance, but it is what you now need to do.

when you get said letter(s) come back to this forum for advice on the options you have.

Why didn’t you buy your ticket before joining the train?

How did you get through the ticket barriers?

What do you mean by a “temporary address”? Why did you give it and not your actual address?

If you are currently staying at a temporary address, you have done nothing wrong in giving it, as it is not a false address.
But, as others have said, if you stop using that address, you must make sure any post gets forwarded.
They may write to both addresses, but don't rely on that.

You can probably ring them but you need to tell us who it was who stopped you and show what papers they gave you - then we will know to advise you on who to ring. Have a read of your own posts - it's hard to help you with advice if you can not set out clearly the information you need to share!

It looks like english is not your 1st language - fair enough, no problem with that, but maybe you can get someone else to read the info you were given and interpret it if you are unable to post it here.
