Hi.

I am being booked tickets for travel on this Friday and have said that instead of posting them (as they may not arrive in time) that they will get me a reservation number so I can collect them at the station.

How does/will this work? I thought you needed a debit card from the purchaser to verify the details.. shall I take some ID just incase I have any problems?

You need the card they were bought with and the reference number that would have been emaild, select 'collect tickets' for example and follow the instructions.

I doubt you will be able to collect them from the ticket office unless the machine is out of order.

I'm not buying the tickets though, the client who I am going to see is arranging my travel said "We will get a reference number which will allow you to pick up your tickets at the station."

That will be a reference for the tickets to be issued by the booking office, rather than collected from a fast tiket machine/TVM which is what Wintonian is referring to above. You just need the booking reference for this.

Do some TOC's allow you to collect from the ticket office then?

I thought you had to use the machines unless they were broken?

For example SWT have notices up at some (all?) stations with ticket offices saying that tickets cannot be collected from the ticket office.

Travel Agents are able to sell tickets and have them issued without having any credit / debit card. Just go to the machine input your reference and the tickets will be issued.

Arriva Trains Wales at least allows you to collect tickets from where ever you may choose.

Not necessarily. I regularly collect tickets from a TVM which have been booked for me by an employer. I just need to insert any credit/debit card into the machine and type in the reference number which has been emailed to me.

My understanding is that booking agents can flag a ticket for release via a specific card or any card. The default for agents manning the public booking lines is a specific card, but agents acting for an employer would normally use the any card option.

At Sheffield also, the booking office will NOT issue tickets which have been booked for collection at the TVM. I suggest the OP trys the machine at Tonbridge using any credit/debit card and only if that does not work go to the booking office.

The very (un)accurate National Rail website says that you can't collect tickets from the ticket office.

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/ton/details.html

It depends on the TOC and individual ticket office. I spend a fair bit of time sorting out TOD tickets for customers, either because the TVM doesn't read the card, wrong card, no card, no reference number etc....

The cardholder's name is encoded onto most credit cards, so it may be that a card in the name of the traveller is required.

It appears that a Agent has booked the tickets when I called them direct, she said I needed a card for the system to recognize my name, but i wont be charged anything.
