I am in York. Is there an easy way for me to pay for a return ticket from Manchester - York for someone to collect in Manchester later today?

Thanks

It would depend when the ticket was required. You could buy it online and have it posted to the address in Manchester, but it would take 5 day's or so notice, or you could pay a premium for next day delivery.

Can I pay for a ticket for a stranded passenger?
It is possible to arrange a "Silk Arrangement" for a stranded passenger. This must be done at a station or via our Aftersales Team on 08457 000 125. Please note that only Standard Open Single tickets may be purchased in this event and a £10 administration fee will apply.

So it's obviously an unattractive option. You may be better to do a bank transfer to this person (for most banks it is now instant).

Unless you fancy paying a fortune, I agree with Mojo - do a bank transfer if at all possible.

Otherwise, a full fare single from MAN-YRK is £21.70 + £10 admin fee = £31.70 !
