Does anyone know what time the ticket barriers at Rhyl are manned until? My ticket is totally valid but rather don't want to have to explain a break of journey as it wasn't pleasant last time.

@gray1404. Obvious question. What ticket you planning on using? Is it 100% definitely valid for Break of Journey?

I would be very careful getting into any argument here, almost all Off Peak Return tickets priced by Transport for Wales have restriction 8A which prohibits break of journey.

Ordinarily most staff won't do much about it, but that doesn't change the validity if you encounter staff who do know about it, and want to enforce it, e.g. at Rhyl.

I'd just double check that it doesn't involve restriction 8A! If it's restriction VN/ VK, make sure it's not the outward journey.

I can only assume you've found a ticket with 2T - in which case, you are correct. However, the barriers at Rhyl can be staffed until very late at night, which doesn't assist you really, although just stay calm and polite and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks for confirming Rhyl barriers can be staffed until very late at night. I actually didn't realise this given the booking office closes at 7.30pm and Sunday late afternoon onwards there is zero staff presence. Strange.

What is the latest you are aware of them being staffed, and is this from personal experience - or how else have you come to know about these (unpublished) times?

They've been staffed as late as 10pm. TfW have gone through an exercise in fairly recent times in extending the operating times of their gatelines across entire network, subject to staff.

At the very least, efforts are made to ensure that most of the Avanti departures are covered.

They've been staffed well beyond 10pm (assuming last trains) during special events, e.g. Chester Races.

There were late-night revenue blocks a while ago. Rhyl, Colwyn Bay and Chester all involved though only Chester was made permanent.
