Hi all

Looking for a day trip out this Saturday to see mates, I have one question.

The standard off peak return from Euston is ~£19 for me with railcard, this is to Brum New St/Moor St/Snow Hill. I am planning to get off at New St on outbound. For the return, can I use it for example from Moor St to Marylebone, or am I restricted to New St-Euston?

Thanks all

Can't see any fares valid on a Saturday for £19.

Is this a child fare or with railcard discount?

Depends on the routeing, if it is an any permitted ticket then yes.
However it sounds like you've got an LM only one, which is only valid on London Midland services to London, so you'll have to travel from New Street

The £18.80 railcard-discounted ticket is London Midland trains only.

The £19.45 railcard-discounted ticket is "via High Wycombe" (so, in effect, only Chiltern Trains to/from Marylebone).

A key difference being that the latter can be excessed to permit travel on another route. Think it's about £1.50 to upgrade to the Any Permitted Super Off-Peak if you can abide by the time restrictions.

Ah, I see the OP mentions a railcard.

Suspect he's looking at a LM only ticket which doesn't allow travel into Marylebone for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the replies so far folks, much appreciated.

Would anyone be able to recommend a ticket which would permit me to use both lines?

Thanks all

There's a super off peak any permitted route for £34.00 London terminals to Birmingham Stations time restrictions even on Saturdays.

There's a super off peak any permitted route for £34.00 London terminals to Birmingham Stations time restrictions even on Saturdays.

More specifically:

Not valid on trains scheduled to depart London Terminals before 1100, nor between 1341 and 2014, Mondays to Fridays (excluding public holidays); nor on trains scheduled to depart London Terminals before 1030, nor between 1631 and 1829, at weekends and public holidays.

In the reverse direction: Not valid on trains scheduled to arrive at London Terminals before 1300, nor between 1521 and 2029, Mondays to Fridays (excluding public holidays); nor on trains scheduled to arrive London Terminals before 1208, nor between 1751 and 2004, at weekends and public holidays.

If you need to travel during the restricted times, the best option would be to get the via High Wycombe Super Off-Peak Return for £19.45 and an alternate route excess to an Any Permitted Off-Peak Return for the other leg (if you want to use Virgin) or even the London Midland only Super Off-Peak (providing you're not travelling between 1630 and 1930) or Off-Peak Return.

The excess to the Any Permitted SVR should be £7.80 (HALF the difference in fares, as the ticket type excess is a consequence of the route excess), and the London Midland ones should be zero fare as they're cheaper than the via High Wycombe fare.
