I'm travelling today from London to Matlock.
Due to a fatality at Wellingborough, the EMR train from St Pancras was cancelled very soon after it was made available for boarding. After a short delay it was announced that ticket acceptance was in place and train companies would accept tickets via reasonable routes. Checking an online journey planner, I found that using Hull Trains from King's Cross via Grantham would keep the delay down to an hour or so, and dragged Mrs H off to King's Cross at speed.
On board the train, announcements were being made that tickets from EMR were not being accepted, but I decided to stick with it. A couple of other passengers even helpfully pointed out the announcements and suggested we alight! As it turned out, the guard didn't manage to get to the coach we were in to check our tickets, so the discussion I had prepared for didn’t take place, much to the relief of my other half.
The question is, really, that having been given two pieces of conflicting advice was the HT position reasonable. And if they had refused to accept our tickets, what might have happened, especially if I had refused to pay for new tickets?
