Just checking times for trains out of Lime St and noticed the 1356 Lime St-Chester via Runcorn (TfW) showing cancelled, stating ‘No ticket acceptance in place on other routes’. Looking on RTT, TfW have cancelled all those services until 1556.

Given Merseyside are running a normal Sunday service to Chester from Lime St via the Wirral, why wouldn’t ticket acceptance be in place?

It looks as if the TfW service has been ditched for the day, along with Bidston-Wrexham. TfW’s JourneyCheck shows a fair bit of mayhem today, with cancellations on the Heart of Wales and Cambrian Coast which are probably more pertinent in terms of getting people home after the break.

The ticketing around this service really needs sorting out however - given the bank holiday, the best option for anybody just wanting to get from Liverpool to Chester is a Merseyrail Day Saver, which undercuts both the TfW- and Merseyrail- only returns. I suspect the issue is that both Merseyrail and TfW have political masters to appease as well.

There may also be an element of not wanting to allow people to go via Crewe as well.

If the delay would be over an hour, passengers have the automatic right to be re-routed.

Any passenger who may otherwise be attended must be conveyed by any other operator in a position to help

Sadly the rail industry isn't always keen on satisfying it's contractual and/or legal obligations, let alone actually treating passengers with respect and encouraging people to travel by rail in future; the attitude among some in the industry appears to be that passengers are a huge inconvenience. I can't see that changing any time soon, sadly.
