So the 'Hampshire' units were the standard Restriction 4, the 'Hastings' fleet were the flat sided Restriction 0, and the 'Oxted' units were the slightly wider Restriction 1.

But despite these varying widths, did they (apart from the 57ft short 6S Hastings units) share the same standard BR Mk 1 63ft 6in underframes? Would that mean that the narrower widths were achieved by narrower bodywork alone?

The Hastings unit section of Blood and Custard says the 6L/6Bs had standard underframes, so it seems the answer is Yes and Yes.

I seem to remember the Hither Green accident report has some mention of how the running gear was different on the Hastings units, which was a possible contributory factor to the accident.

The bogies were modified to limit side to side movement.
