If the case is heard in the American courts, and assuming the Panorama episode was not actually shown in the USA, making a case of reputational damage may prove tricky.
If I heard right, global availability on the BBC’s iplayer was the key to action being possible in the US.

iPlayer isn't available outside the UK I thought?
You can't legally, though a VPN will probably get past any technical barriers.

However, a quick search comes up with https://www.bbcselect.com/
The Home of Documentaries
Available on leading streaming platforms in the US.
There's also BBC America on cable or satellite.

So even if iPlayer per se isn't in the US, the Panorama programme may well have been available to US audiences.

The case is entirety symbolic and will go nowhere. Trump suffered no ill consequences and was not even aware of it until very recently. After he was elected as President of the United States.

I find it funny that Trump has any reputation left which isn't already damaged!

The media is making a whole thing about the fact that other broadcasters have paid him off. They don't seem to have noted that this isn't really an admission of guilt, it's because they've got mergers and other fed gov business under consideration and they needed to grease the wheels. A few million is nothing in the grand scheme of a multi billion dollar deal.

Surely not corruption?

The President of the United States?

I am shocked - shocked I tell you!

Some of our British friends here in Italy can get it....but only by inserting the number of their UK TV licence - as you would have to if you were watching in the UK. We don't have a television - or licence - in the UK, so we can't watch it either way.

This just in (just before 2pm) from BBC News - it's a live page so I've quoted the top-of-page summary as it is now, at 3pm:

Epstein alleged Trump 'spent hours' with one of his victims, in email released by Democrats

Summary

  • US House Democrats have released new emails to and from Jeffrey Epstein that reference President Donald Trump
  • One exchange is between Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in 2019, and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell
  • An email from Epstein to Maxwell in April 2011 reads: "I want you to realize that that dog that hasn't barked is trump.. [Victim] spent hours at my house with him"
  • Other emails between Epstein and author Michael Wolff have been released - responding to a question about Trump, Wolff says: "If he says he hasn't been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable PR and political currency"
  • The Democrats say the emails - from the Epstein estate - "strike a blow against the White House's Epstein cover-up"
  • Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein, saying allegations against him are a "hoax" orchestrated by the Democratic Party
  • Trump and Epstein were friendly for years, but the president says he fell out with him in the early 2000s
  • The White House has not commented on the Democrats' latest release of emails - the BBC has approached them for comment

This is a key reason Speaker Mike Johnson kept the House in recess for a lengthy period of time, to delay the release of anything Epstein-related. Now that the House has been compelled to return to help end the government shutdown, this was possible.

Had this come out six months ago it would probably had a noticeable effect, but I wonder if now people’s views and allegiances have become too entrenched. The Democrats were quite certain of this anyway and now merely have some proof, while the MAGA-clan are just going to accept whatever denials or distortions come out of the Whitehouse. A few will lose their faith in him, but probably not really do much about it.

The only thing that could hit him is if his handlers feel that the best thing for their plans is to jettison him, in which case they may well wind him in a way that becomes even more dangerous for the rest of us. But even if they continue to back him, his distractionary actions are likely to be thoroughly dangerous.

I don't know. One of the few true red lines left in America these days is sexual abuse of underaged people (unless you're a pastor). I mean, we've seen the likes of Marjorie "Jewish Space Laser" Green breaking ranks with MAGA and demanding the release of the files.

You don't have to put a licence number anywhere when watching iPlayer in the UK. It asks you if you have a licence and you press yes and that's it. Creating an account and adding your postcode may be mandatory now, but certainly no TV licence number.

OK. Thanks for the clarification. I probably misunderstood - or more likely misremembered - what those friends had said (there may have been wine involved! ;)). However, surely, if you give your postcode and set up an account, the system will be able to tell immediately whether or not you have a licence.

The servers check your IP address (and other technical details) to see which country you appear to be in. If the server finds that you are not in the UK, you don't get to see any programmes intended only for the UK.
I am registered but have not put my licence details in.

Only have to give a postcode, not property number :) also really it's not validated - could use the postcode for MI5 and it would accept it.

I believe the postcode is mainly used to ensure you get relevant TV services, e.g. when the 'regional' news comes on and you live in Betws-y-Coed you get the North West Wales news, not the London news.

When these were made mandatory in 2017, BBC said TV Licensing had access to the information but no plans were in place to use the information for licence enforcement. That may have changed now, not sure!

Come on it's clearly an innocent game of Monopoly that went on for four hours, Trump winning of course as he's a great businessman.

I heard it was a body double, and that trump never knew Epstein, never flew on any private jet never had young girls at Mara Lago, never knew Maxwell, never met a porn star, and never gave her money to hush up what they never did, hasn't run a corrupt business empire, does not know Putin, never met the guy, <:D

It's the murderer caught by the police killing someone, in front of a load of high quality CCTV cameras, with a knife he's got the receipt for, that's covered in his fingerprints and the victims DNA but he's still claiming "it's not me, honest gov."

Unfortunately the MAGA faithful won't care, and to me that is just sick, wilfully protecting and supporting the kind of person you are trying to claim immigrants are to justify their removal from the country. As someone commented somewhere else it's gone from, "Release the files!", to "Protect the 'philes".

Actually taking all the money from the bank and still losing.
Does his version have as one of the chance/community chess cards a "you've been caught paying for women, pay the bank $xxxxxx to hush it up" card?
