Excellent deduction my dear chap. It's a case extraordinaire which takes me to Hampshire. I shall write about it anon.

'BakerStreet' cos I love the Met line and that station !

All over the place - I'll be working at the time (all 3 days!) but it's still plenty of getting about I guess!

I'm very tempted to do London to Ramsgate, London to Hastings and London to Brighton on Sunday, but I'm mindful that I have 12 hours of exams next week... hmm.

Just come home with my bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, really proud of myself :).

Tomorrow I will be heading to Manchester Airport on the train to meet my mother coming in from a business trip, then probably talk her into buying me a KFC .

I've got a 'spare' day on a FoSS 3 in 7 day rover, so I'm going to use that tomorrow, not sure where it'll take me yet though! :)

Plenty of XC HST mileage moves? Get a Devon Ranger add on, could do a return Plymouth - Cheltenham or something? With presumably 3 diagrams out, all you'd need to do is work in a move.. :D

I'm thinking of taking a trip to work tomorrow. When I say thinking, if I choose not to I'll get sacked. Ha ha.

Talking in the past tense now, we went to Brighton via Paddington & London Victoria on Saturday.

Took the hourly 79 bus from outside Brighton station to Ditchling Beacon before walking along the South Downs Way for 6 miles to Devil's Dyke where there is a pub and another bus, every 45 mins.this time, on route 77 back to Brighton station.

Stunning views from the path both north over the Weald and south to the sea. Even if you're not a walker, the bus routes are probably worth doing for the ride and scenery. No facilities at Ditchling Beacon, but pub with real ale and extensive menu and great views at Devil's Dyke.

Came home with Thameslink to Farirngdon for a change; surprisingly ran via Elephant & Castle rather than London Bridge - engineering work, presumably.

Also speaking retrospectively I took part in a Rugby League Masters Festival at the home of the Brighton Blues RU side (Sussex Merlins RL team also call it home) on the Saturday. Home station to Southampton and return by AXC Voyager then shared car journey to the venue.

I recommend all you 35 to 99+ year olds join your local RL Masters team. Look them up on the internet. The fun is not just limited to pretending to know what you are doing on the pitch. There is a lot of socialising before and after.

A day of recuperation on the Sunday was followed by a family visit to Tavistock. Sadly it was a bus ride to the West Devon stannary town after being deposited at Plymouth North Road.

I still dream that I will be able to make the journey by train direct via Okehampton. I did fit in my ritual when in Tavistock of walking over the viaduct on the approach to Tavistock North station imagining I was sat once more in a train plying the route. Will the line ever re-open in my lifetime despite the clamour during the winter storms (The sun is out. What storm damage? Buildings encroaching the line. Other priorities. No money. Next......)?

Retrospectively for me too, since I don't view this area of the forum lately. I was on it every couple of days with no real action, then left it alone for 10 days and BOOM, tons of threads!

I did a 'norm' night out on the Sunday after un-cancelling plans on the Saturday night, deciding to throw caution to the wind and worry later if I was skint all month. Which is probably partly why I'm still up now, I should have gone to bed...

Monday was difficult, since I was out until 0300 then had a little over 2 hours to kill on my own at the station for the first train out of Hereford. It was a little weird leaving the night out briefly to pick up train tickets mind, and boy wasn't I worried I'd lose them! It was off at 0526 on Monday to get down to Reading for a Thames Valley day out, coming back on the Tuesday so technically commuting to work that day on an HST and 175 :D

And NO, there will NOT be a trip report before anyone asks! I'm beyond bored of spending ages typing them up in recent weeks, it's just such a fogging chore to do them all the time. Maybe I'll do one again later this month, but don't hold your breath...

Wait a few weeks and if you need inspiration read one of yours on the forum from 8 or 9 years ago - I've found that I enjoy them greatly now they've 'matured' a bit - they remind me of good times!

Like a good whiskey then

Aye I've done that previously, it's less a need for inspiration for what to write about or whatever - an advantage of non-fiction, compared to many failed attempts at creative writing since my successful piece at secondary school! - and more finding the motivation to type up something readable. They do get frightfully boring to do after a while, and this is demonstrated exceptionally well in my "The Epic 10 Year Anniversary Bash" trip report. It all starts off well, but by day 3 it's painfully obvious I was fed up of typing it up, putting it in black and white for everyone to read means I must have truely got sick of it!

You are right though, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip down Memory Lane last time I read some old ones on here. Same for reading some of my old notes from 2005 in notebooks recently. Hard to believe I turned down a 156 to Birmingham at the time in favour of a 158 to Shrewsbury, as I apparently didn't like 156s at the time. Must have been missing some screws in my head back then...

I'm out and about again on Monday finally, feels like ages ago since the Thames Valley bash! Good news is that I'm off to Manchester, first time this year and I can't wait! :D Very good chance I'll have a trip report to go with it...
