This may sounds like a silly question...but...

How do you drive a none London Underground surface rail train in BVE4 or Open BVE...

If I want to drive an class 156 for example...I press 2 to start the engin, nothing happens, I turn the power up and the brakes off...nothing happens!

Am I doing somthing wrong? What should I do?

On BVE4, press the up arrow, then the down arrow. When you hear a long beep, press Ins.

On OpenBVE do the same, but use F and V instead of Up and Down

then hold down 2 start her up then press up, take off the brakes (A or , then wait for the signals (press 6 if u hear a "buzz buzz") and throttle her up (z)

Don't worry..

You simply need to cancel the DRA by pressing the space bar once, before applying power.

It doesn't really matter when you do this, as long as you do so before you apply the throttle, although i personally do so after i've seen the signal in front of the originating station change to a "proceeding" aspect- i.e. yellow/double yellow/green.

Slightly off on a tangent, what's the point in DRA?

To stop the driver setting off against a red signal and ahving a SPAD. The idea is that he sees the DRA is set, checks signal, deactivates DRA if clear and then takes power.

It doesn't. It has to be manually set/reset by the driver.

We do so ourselves on BVE4, as per a train driver in real life, by pressing the space bar once we've checked that the signal is showing a "proceed aspect" at the originating station. (and of course if you correctly apply the DRA at an intermediate red signal/ a red signal at an intermediate station).

UURRGG!! OMG!!

Ok, so I got the train moving...but after a while a get a high pitched beeping and the trains stops and doesn't seem to be able to be moved again!!!

Can anyone help? LOL!!

Hi there

I think the "high pitched beeping" is the vigilance device which most trains are equipped with in real life. It is designed to ensure that the driver hasn't had a heart attack etc whilst they are driving, being triggered by the driver not altering the throttle/brakes within a certain time limit.

On BVE4, the problem can be very easily solved.

Simply hit 'delete' within a few seconds of the beeping occuring, to prevent the brakes being applied automatically.

I apologise if this is not actually the solution to your problem, but i'm pretty sure what you've described is the vigilance.

Sounds like that to me, you may also get a continuous bleep noise, this is the AWS - it can be stopped by pressing 'Insert'
