Looks first-class to me, and I'd deffo consider a long-distance journey on the solo seat; wonder if this becomes "normal" whether we would get first-class treatment eg. food/drink/loo?

It's a very well-polished turd in my view - it still bucks and rattles all over the place on its rural long distance route (yes, I've used it).

It won't become normal, it's one specific route aimed at competing with rail and serving a very posh town.

I'm thinking more of coaches being like that going on the motorways, not bumpy country roads! I was on a similar 125 (2x2 seating) Bolton - Preston, over an hour and very slow and uncomfortable - luckily free with my pass though; and I'd rarely take the bus over the train (but this is Northern Territory).

However if buses/coaches were more darned comfortable and had the facilities then they are a good option. Just a case of getting the long-distance few-stops ones to be more like train first-class travel as the photo suggests. To be honest I'm surprised that the bus in the photo is on a regular route and not trundling up and down the motorways.

I couldn't find any sign of any of this batch in the Transdev Harrogate fleetlist on bustimes, and today's allocation seems to be the previous (i.e. 65 plate) generation of vehicles.

Did you use a demo? Otherwise, I'm confused...

I've used a 2+1 seated bus on that route with an interior that looked very much like that one. I assume it was an older one in that case? A new one won't be any less bouncy and rattly, it's still a city bus being used on a semi-rural/interurban route.

If you put a Rolls-Royce on a semi-rural route it will be bouncy and rattly, thanks to our roads! It's difficult to envisage a smooth rise on a bus on our roads other than the motorways, made worse by the number of road humps buses have to navigate, which is where rail will always have the advantage. But at least having 2 x 1 gives the pax more space but in the photo not sure if that's an armrest or a tiny table, if wither it looks unusable for both!

It’s a completely different model to what is used now. These are ADLs, the current buses are by Wright

Armrest with a holder for drinks, I believe. The raised strip is partly there for for comfort and partly to stop people placing down anything that could spill on them.

I've thought for a while that 2+1 seating would work well on many routes in the UK.

Long distance you need the comfort.

Urban, solo travellers will take up the extra seat with their bag anyway, and a wider aisle gives easier access and more space for standing.

Also gives the potential to build slightly narrower buses to more easily access our crowded roads.
