Thirsk to Moorthorpe and a question on fare checking

Afternoon all,

I wish to go on a journey from Thirsk to Moorthorpe. I have looked it up on WebTIS, NRE and the good old routeing guide and have come to the conclusion that it is valid via Leeds.

I'm assuming that now the requirement to validate the journey using the NRE journey planner has been relaxed I can travel via map MY?

Also, on fare checking, Thirsk to Wakefield Stations gives two sets of fares, the 'any permitted route' ticket would show Wakefield as an inappropriate routeing point, whereas the 'via Leeds' ticket would show it as appropriate. Does this mean that it is not an appropriate routeing point or does it mean it is, but only for journeys via Leeds?

The Thirsk to Wakefield Any Permitted doesn't actually have any effect on permitted routes as far as I can tell. If you are using Wakefield as a routing point you must travel via Leeds. The reason it is more expensive is probably due to it being a SOS ticket and not as SDS which should be used in this instance for the fare check where possible.

Map MY looks good to me, with the longer journey and it needing a short walk I can't imagine a booking engine would ever give it (does the timetable trick still work anywhere?)

If you want to travel via Leeds in both directions, a Thirsk-Fitzwilliam day return is valid via Leeds (in the sense that journey planners will give you itineraries via Leeds) and is the same price as a Thirsk-Moorthorpe (valid via Pontefract Baghill) ticket. A Fitzwilliam-Moorthorpe day return would add 2.40 to the cost

I think you could actually use just the Fitzwilliam ticket, but one leg would have to take a direct train between Moorthorpe and York. My internet isn't very good at the moment so that should be double checked.
