The X-Factor

With the X-Factor now in it's who-knows-what series, what is people's verdict on the show. Is it a waste of time? Has it reached it's peak? Have you even auditioned? Are you one of these people who votes every week? Who's you act to win this year?

Personally, I loathe the X-Factor. It's soooooo boring; there was a time long ago when I enjoyed watching the auditions for their comic singing skills, bit even that is no longer interesting — I find it is an excellent time to go on the computer.

I suspect this will be a deeply controversial subject.

I used to hate it. Then the wife and people at work kept talking about it, so I watched it to see what the fuss was all about. Quite enjoyed it. There are far worse things on TV - Big Brother for example.

Couldn't watch more than 5 minutes of this programme. I could just about watch it in the days of "Pop Idol" but since it changed to X Factor the whole show has just become staged and boring. It also shows Britain up for the lack of singing talent that it has.

There are far better television programmes to watch than this programme at the time that it is shown, which is typical of the dross served up by ITV to appeal to a Saturday night peak period audience.

I've never really found any of these reality shows the slightest bit interesting.

Still, millions of people do watch them so there must be an audience for them. Not me though.....can't stand any of them.

X Factor is utter drivel. Another cog in the Simon Cowell money making, public manipulation machine. It's symbiotic relationship with the tabloid press is deeply worrying.

I used to watch the auditions occasionally for comic value, but stopped bothering at all a few years ago when I realised it wasn't actually that funny. The screening process picks out the best and worst to go in front of the judges, hence why the really bad people often have so much confidence in themselves. It was bad enough humiliating them in front of a TV camera, but now it's in front of a live audience as well?

I agree with those who say it's drivel of the worst kind.

Pop idol/x-factor was ok to start with but its past its sell by date now, usually the last couple of singers are very very good, just a shame you have to watch the rest of the crap to see who they are, i don't watch it any more.

Aside from the fact it's manipulative cr*p, the sheer amount of adverts make it unbearable. As well as that it is just brain dead TV and is symbolic of our celebrity culture where fame is won in 5 minutes of a TV appearance.

I watched a bit of the live show with the new judges. I don't think I'll bother in future, nothing has changed. Same old manipulative rubbish with mediocre singers being promoted as 'the next big thing'.

One of the worst things about the X factor and the rest of the "reality" shows is the influx of yet more Z list celebrity wannabes. Ie Jedward :roll::-x

I think its outgrown it`s use and those judges who we picked for the others, how long have the girls been in music exactly ?

As long as they dress like a cheap tart it doesn't matter.

For ITV however at least it provides cash for better programs to be made. What I object to most strongly is the blanket media coverage.

It was a quiz show with 15 contestants who were asked one question at a time (they basically went around in a semi-circle). They had three lives and lost one for every incorrect answer, but gained one back after three correct answers. Last man standing won. I think what I have just typed is correct. It was the boss in the early 2000s though. I do remember the questions being really tough though, maybe Mastermind level.
