The worst mess rooms.

Don't know you are born you drivers and gaurds with your nudgies and your sky and your pots and your pans- the mess room for many people is a wee behind a bush and butties in the van after a hard day shovelling so you can drive your nice train

A collegue of mine uses to say that we drivers have too much lone time to think, at work. This leads us to complain about whatever.

Boxes of mice bait abound, a faint smell of damp sewage from when the station flooded in the 90s and the decomposing bodies of drowned rats - one imagines. A TV with the worst reception ever - totally unwatchable 99% of the time, and, the most endearing feature, a notice above the urinals (complete with yellow crystalline deposits), asking politely to "refrain from wiping the contents of your nose on the toilet wall," along with copius amounts of defiant green bogies.

I preferred Neville Hill, and that was saying A LOT!

If any c**t ever tried that with me they'd get a piece of mind to start with, then I'd book off immediately and they'd have to find someone else to work the train.

Absolutely. As an outsider, I can't believe there are still parts of the railway industry where this happens. I work in the healthcare industry- that's one of the most heirarchical out there, but if anyone in my line of work tried the "top table" garbage they'd be laughed out of the building. It's pathetic and childish, and does the public perception of railwaymen and women no good at all. The employers are probably powerless to stop it, but surely the unions could say it has to cease.

I am shocked that some of the conditions you foalk are tollerating are allowed!

I can sort of understand the eating in Wetherspoons thing but wonder this. If you went to a supermarket caf for breaky would that matter seeing as theres shelves upon shelves of booz in said supermarket?
Isnt that the same thing?

When I first started I was told not to go into any off-licences with my uniform.
I asked "Does that include supermarkets, as they have licences?"
I was told it does. And promptly ignored the rule - as there is no way you are banning me from going to a Tesco Express or something

Well quite! Even most corner shops/convenience stores have lisences no and as we all these news and booz shops are as proliffic as supermarket express/metro/local outlets.
