Hello folks. I was attracted to the subject matter after searching and finding this link:
http://www.railforums.co.uk/printthread.php?t=131276

on your forum. I'm sorry this is closed. I'm a UFO geek more than a rail geek, although I have a good friend who is certainly the latter...

The derailment came up in a photostatted article I have 'The Cornishman' quarterly magazine of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway', of something like 12 to 15 years ago. I obtained it from my UFO club.

Long and short. I've given myself the task of investigating this event.

The photograph given is of 45149, although, this might just be a generic photo. In brief, the driver David Bowman described an encounter with some alien like beings just after the incident, and was later subject to some ridicule apparently. (Incidentally I believe saucers are real but the alien aspect is needs a more sceptical approach, but that's a BIG topic)

With the moderator's approval, I'd be willing to scan and upload the article if there is any interest. Thanks :)

I don't recall ever hearing that the driver had seen alien beings after the incident!
Was that supposedly straight afterwards or on another day entirely?
The locomotive 45149 is actually preserved on the line currently. If it looks clean and smart in the photo it was probably taken in the last few years and not in the 1970s.
It wasn't 45149 involved though. It was 450.. something, a different loco of the same type.
I don't know if you know this or not, but that section of railway has been subjected to subsidence on a few occasions which I think may have caused the derailment of that particular freight train. The problems of subsidence has been ongoing and it certainly wasn't a mystery crash. It just didn't make big news because it was a freight train on basically a freight only cross country railway route where no one was hurt. Pretty much all the information is out there really.

Someone on here will know more because I've seen this mentioned a few times on the forum.

Clearly post incident drugs and alcohol screening was not carried out in those distant days....

Some railwaymen might consider passengers to be alien-like beings.

Following on from my original post I have a couple of scanned PDFs of the article. There doesn't seem anyway to upload other than by a link to a webpage. If anyone wishes to receive them by email attachment please let me know. I would be interested in any feedback. By the same token, if the forum master wants them to upload, let me know. Cheers.

The gentleman who gave the copy to me a couple of years ago was called Trevor Wiley. Someone on here possibly knows him? I only met him once or twice. I think he is a railway enthusiast as well as having a UFO interest. He wrote one or two notes on the article.
