Was a great tour indeed! Much thrash to be had. Some nice bellows too, as Julian and Jim will know .

Finally got to do Reading West Curve, in which I will probably never do again unless its on another tour. As well as this, the freight only curve at Didcot.

And to top it all off, I got a nice 180 from Reading - London Paddington. Though many will just think 'so what, its another 180'. Well this is indeed true but with what, 3 or so of them left on fGW, I felt it was a nice way to end a great day.

T'was well worth the effort to brave Dilton Marsh in the cold east winds and rain. The noise produced from those 20s was audible when they were miles off.

Overall, I was well impressed. Shame I couldn't have got them in the book but I got some cracking video instead. Job done.

Might be worth taking the extra pair of socks should you get put in one of Carnforth's finest coaches :roll:

Coach A was indeed one of "Carnforth's finest" - no heat and no lights right from the start of the day. :-x Although I didn't have an extra pair of socks, I was fortunate that I was wearing an extra thick pair! Didn't feel too cold though, wandering to see others elsewhere on the train every hour proved to be sensible. Emergency lights were provided o the return when it got dark, but we moved to coach E at Oxford when a load had alighted.

And so ends another 22 hour day!

Along with my last post, it was a cracking day. Just outside of Westbury was the Serco test train, with two DRS37s. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but I will post them later on.


Fred had a tripod at Poole, but he didn't see me sitting down at the time, lol

Coach D was nowhere near as bad, although it was cooler than B&C - it was one of the coaches which I went to for a warm on a few occasions to see a mate who was sat there! At least your coach had been warmed up for the first few hours of the day. Still, I preferred A as it was rather than having to endure a 'coffin' which could've been the alternative.

The DRS tractors at Westbury were 37611 and 608.

Looks like Spitfire have announced another 20 tour, now on their site is a August 2nd B'ham Intl - Carlisle tour! This also clashes with the Donny PSB tour so anyone moaning about the spoons and high price can book on this, 2x20's and £45 8)
