The Waterloo travelator

So I'm an occasional user of Waterloo and I genuinely can't recall when the travelator has actually been fully operational. It always seems to have at least one direction not working. So I'm wondering if anyone knows what exactly is the issue here. Some sensitive sensors maybe? People hitting the stop button? And I assume the reason it just gets left stationary is because you'd need to get everyone off it to restart it so at busy times it's best left.

I used to think it was just due some maintenance but this has been going on for years now. Would be curious to hear if there are any plans to improve its service.

Its the one linking Jubilee line to the Northern and Bakerloo.

It always seems working normally when I travel through Waterloo

Ah, I remember now. Haven't interchanged there for a while. For some reason my brain was thinking W&C, probably because Bank on the other end has them

This wasn’t last year but was over three years ago! It is also not the reason that this moving walkway is out of service, it is switched off for pre-planned maintenance.

Indeed, but it never seems to have worked long term since that incident - it was eventually restarted, but ever since seems to be out of service more often than not, which does not sound like pre-planned maintenance.

For all the hoo-hah about the architectural design, the general M&E of the Jubilee Line Extension stations from 20 years ago does seem to be insufficiently robust - the escalators and lifts at Canning Town seem to have gone through multiple replacement cycles over that time.
