Evening all,

On Saturday, I had a trip around the Dublin Suburban system.
Highlights of the trip include:

NIR C3K units on rugby specials from Belfast to Dublin.

076 on a RPSI stock transfer from Inchicore to Connolly, for steam driver training out on the Maynooth Line on Sunday.

Interior shots of the A1 car on 22134.

3 071's lined up at Drogheda.

One of the last "cue ball" fitted 22000's at Portarlington on the 1835 Heuston - Thurles.

Hi folks,

The latest update to the Wanderers site is now online showing:

Engineering works at Ballybrophy. The Up and Down Main lines through the station are currently being renewed. All main line traffic has to use the Down Loop. Limerick - Ballybrophy via Nenagh trains are currently starting / terminating at Roscrea.

The last days of the Cork cement: 212 passing Clonkeen with the 1045 Cork - North Wall cement.

Two updates tonight, the first is some early morning and early evening shots at Portarlington and Heuston which sees 22006 working the 1500 Waterford - Heuston vice the booked MKIII set. http://thewanderersirishrailphotos.fotopic.net/c1615900.html

Evening folks,

Just uploaded several pictures from Heuston Station today, including 205 on the 0930 Cork - Heuston with MK3's instead of the MK4 and ICR 6 car 1st class set no. 22033 which worked the 1705 Heuston - Limerick, the first night ICR's have worked this service.

Its really hitting home now with the continued roll out of the 22000's how few and far between traditional loco hauled trains are becoming. For example, during the evening peak in Heuston between 1700 and 1900 hours only four loco hauled departures remain (excluding the Cork line MKIV's) these being:

1710 to Athlone.
1750 to Galway.
1825 to Waterford.
1830 to Tralee.

The Revolution is well and truly rolling on....

The latest update to The Wanderer's Fotopic sees 081 working the Steel Train from Belview Port to Portlaoise Per-Way yard and 142+144 working a special from Waterford to Limerick via Kildare, which consisted of a 2 piece MKIII Hauled Push/Pull set!

Afternoon folks,

The final update for the week sees 076 hauling the last scheduled Sunday freight working on the IE network. The 1220 North Wall - Waterford Timber, captured passing Cherryville Junction, Co. Kildare. The timber traffic from Sligo is scheduled to finish on Wednesday 10th December with the final North Wall - Waterford train being on the following morning, Thursday 11th December 2008.

Another loco hauled service is about to bite the bullet in the next couple of days with the Cork / Mallow - Tralee Push / Pull set being transferred back to Dublin. In its place will be a 3 car 22000 set and 22030 was transferred from Laois Traincare to Cork just before the Christmas shutdown for this. It is expected 22030 will enter service in the Cork area early next week, possibly on Monday.

Therefore, with the impending end of daily loco hauled Push / Pull workings on the Mallow - Tralee I've uploaded several shots of 218 with the Push / Pull set at various locations on the Tralee line from today. Photos are now online at http://thewanderersirishrailphotos.fotopic.net/c1629868.html

After the Cork based Push / Pull is transferred away from Cork, the only Push / Pull working on the Mallow - Tralee line, and indeed south of Cherryville Junction on the Dublin - Cork line will be the Sunday only 0810 Heuston - Tralee and 1745 Tralee - Heuston.

22030 entered traffic in the Cork / Kerry area on Monday with the 1000 Cork - Mallow and 1125 Mallow - Tralee. It was scheduled to also work the 1315 Tralee - Mallow, 1525 Mallow - Tralee and 1715 Tralee - Mallow and 1846 Mallow - Cork. I understand the limited working at the moment is a number of drivers, while trained, still have to be passed out on the type. The Push / Pull was on the other Kerry link, Cork taking full advantage of the extra set they have!

Hi all,

Thursday saw some empty stock movements between Cork and Dublin. The Push / Pull set in Cork, made redunant since it was replaced by a 22000 Class DMU returned to Heuston, leaving Cork at 0900.

Also 2605+2616 returned to Cork from Inchicore, following attention at the works.

An impromptu trip to Co. Kerry this morning turned into a rather nice day as I also managed to fit in Cork and Limerick during the afternoon. Included are photos from Mallow, Rathmore, Kilarney, Cork, Limerick Junction, Limerick and Portlaoise.

Highlights include:

2601+2602+2605+2615 at Mallow, Rathmore and Killarney.
22014 at Killarney and Rathmore.
214 on the standby MKIII set at Cork.
Newly delivered 3 car 22046 at Limerick.
075 on the Limerick Junction Thunderbird plus a few more odds and sods.

Well do I remember my first visit to Heuston station. In 1984, catching the morning train (09:00?) to Tralee as far as Mallow where we changed for Cork. Line up of 071s at Heuston was impressive, and in those pre-Mk III days, vacuum-braked Mk IId coaches something of an oddity to an English lad. Nothing to the oddity of a steam generator van attached to the Tralee-Cork train we boarded at Mallow. Nothing had prepared me for such a peculiar vehicle. Then later in the day changing at Limerick Junction to get the daily train to Rosslare. Another decidedly odd experience!

A few more pictures from Saturday evening showing 167 at Portarlington, which had been sent from Inchicore to rescue 084. The 071 class loco had failed there the previous evening on the 1640 Westport - Waterford Timber. On Sunday morning, I took a spin to Carn Bridge, Monastervin, Athy and Geashill to capture some of the remaining loco hauled services, plus the odd 22000 operated service. Manged to see 3 out of the 5 MKIII sets remaining in daily operation (not including Cork Thunderbird Sets) and the final MKIII Push / Pull set in operation on the 0810 Heuston - Tralee, 0930 Heuston - Waterford, 0925 Waterford - Heuston and 1130 Galway - Heuston.

The latest update features 208 on the 1520 Dublin - Belfast at Castlebellingham on Monday.

Tuesday's photos are from the Leggetsrath deviation, near Kilkenny showing 22024 on the 0930 Heuston - Waterford and 232+6 MKIII Push / Pull (6101) on the 1045 Waterford - Heuston. This service is expected to go over to 22000 DMU operation very shortly, possibly next week. Once this happens the Push / Pull (only 1 left in traffic) will have no booked workings between Cherryville Junction and Waterford ending a 10 year association with the route.
