It has been a very, very, very long time since a cold wind from the Irish Sea blew over Bradford...

Not regarding the Irish Sea, regarding the wind in January

Anyway can somebody takes us from Wakefield Bus Station, this is my favourite game on here and it is going into decline!

We find a hotel in Wakefield, and arise in time for the early service at the Cathedral at 0800, then after a coffee and breakfast, board the 0953 Arriva Yorkshire service 231 from the Bus Sation to Huddersfield Kirkgate, arriving 1048, Sunday morning.

I'm not quite sure what Huddersfield Kirkgate is but according to the timetable services are set to terminate in the main Bus Station :P

After a quick look in the shops and a spot of brunch our journey continues onwards where we take the 1238 First Calderdale & Huddersfield route 184 (the Purple Line) to Manchester (Piccadilly Gardens bus station), arriving there at 1423 on Sunday afternoon.

We then take the very short walk past the water displays, pass through the opening in Manchester's very own tribute to the Berlin Wall, pass over the pedestrianised area of the Manchester Metrolink to the main city centre bus station where we board the 1429 Arriva service 130 that arrives at Macclesfield bus station at 1557 on Sunday afternoon.

We have time for a meal before boarding the 1750 Arriva North West route 38 to Sandbach Common, arriving there at 1835 on Sunday evening.

The area around Sandbach Common is well worth visiting, with many old buildings nearby that are well worth seeing. We consider our next move onwards by rail, but Sandbach is one of the places who has a railway station nowhere near its centre (it actually is in the Elworth area, a good 30 minutes walk away) and it only has an hourly service on Sunday, so we return to The Commons at Sandbach where we hear two girls querying the operator of a bus..."D & G !!!...are you sure the "posh" clothing company has diverted its interest into public transport, even though this is a nice area of Cheshire", but an off-duty bus driver reassures them that there will be no fashion show tonight and in fact, we all board the 1935 D & G Bus service 38 to Haslington which arrives at 1945 on Crewe Road, opposite to the Broughton Arms (where the girls were headed) on Sunday evening.

We have time for a drink in the Broughton Arms before boarding the 2121 D&G Bus route 38 for the mere five minute journey to Crewe (railway station), arriving there at 2126 on Sunday evening.

We decide to have a late meal in the restaurant of the famous Crewe Arms Hotel, where we have given thought to our next station where we can visit a place famous for paper manufacture, heavy rain...and a really "rubbish" football team, so we cross the road to the railway station and board the 2339 First ScotRail service to Fort William that takes ages (but allows us to have a good sleep) and eventually arrives there at 0954 on Monday morning.

Fort William is a lovely town with a lot of things to do, so we stop for a lovely breakfast and a hot drink before boarding the 1215 Stagecoach Highlands route 919 to Inverness (bus station), arriving there at 1400 on Monday afternoon.

We now decide that being in Inverness allows us to visit the area we have never been to previously, so we board the 1440 Stagecoach Highlands service X99 that arrives outside the Scrabster ferry terminal area at 1747 on Monday evening.

As public transport isn't frequent in Scrabster, we check into a B&B right by the ferry gangway, stop for a lovely breakfast and a hot drink before boarding the 0830 Stagecoach Highlands route X99 to Dunbeath (War Memorial), arriving there exactly an hour later at 0939 on Tuesday morning.

We realise that we are not very far from the area that was served by the southern terminus of the now long defunct Wick and Lybster Light Railway, so after a stroll around the town, we return to the bus stop and board the 1052 Stagecoach Highlands service X97 that arrives at Lybster (Portland Arms Hotel) at 1104 on Tuesday morning.

Have to admit, I've had some difficulty planning the next journey, so we grab a hot drink before boarding the 1212 Stagecoach Highlands route X97 to Dunbeath (War Memorial) again (where connections can be made to Inverness and beyond), arriving there exactly an hour later at 1225 on Tuesday afternoon.

In this game you must travel from the station or stop where the previous post left you. No getting back on the same service you have just left.....You must use a real timetabled public transport service .

I get the sort of feeling that if we don't want to be stuck in Lybster for eternity, we'd better board the 1214 Stagecoach Highlands X97 service to Wick, arriving outside Somerfield's at 1244 on Tuesday morning.

We go to the Post Office to post some seaside-type postcards to friends saying how far north we have reached, then cross over the road to the bus stop where we board the 1309 Stagecoach Highlands service 82 to Thurso (Miller Academy on High Street) that arrives at 1351 on Tuesday afternoon.

You cannot go Dunbeath to Lybster then use the same bus to go Lybster back to Dunbeath, as this contravenes the rules.

You can go Dunbeath to Lybster (which is in a northerly direction) then go Lybster to Wick, as this is still going in a northerly direction and does not retrace any part of the previous journey.

In South Wales terminology, it is like going from Newport to Cwmbran in one journey then on from Cwmbran to Abergavenny on the next journey.

So we are Thurso (at the Miller Academy on High Street). Let us continue by rail to Thurso station, which is literally three minutes around the corner, and take Scotrail's 2H64, the 1629 to Inverness, arriving there at 2009 on Tuesday evening.

Thankfully that last journey was on time and a quick change of platforms sees us board the 2015 First ScotRail service to Stirling that arrives there at 2304 on Tuesday night.

Not much to see, except many "Park and Ride" buses in the York area, so we cross the road in Acomb and board the 0923 First West and North Yorkshire service ( with a good old-fashioned destination of Wiggington on its destination board) and this stops directly opposite York railway station at 0932 on Wednesday morning.

We then grab a drink before taking an exciting route in the form of Grand Central's 1Y82 departure at 1000 to London Kings Cross, arriving right into the heart of the capital at 1224 on Wednesday afternoon.
