We make the most of every opportunity and then we board the 2225 Stagecoach Manchester route X50 to Manchester Piccadilly, arriving there at 2253 on Wednesday evening.

Once again you leave us in Benchill late at night without a batallion of SAS to guard us..:roll: (Last time was outside St Luke's church)

However, we see the same group of airport security officers who recognised us from the last journey we made in Benchill (see the note at the head of this posting) and we walk with them to Brownley Road where we await the 0015 Stagecoach Manchester 43 "Skyline" service to Manchester Airport interchange that arrives there at 0027 on Thursday morning.

A while to wait now, so we have a coffee and then board the 0330 National Express service 280 to Birkenhead Europa Boulevard, arriving 0510, Thursday morning.

Chilly.... at that time of the morning in January with the wind blowing in off the River Mersey, so we are quick to make the very short walk to stand C at Birkenhead bus station where we board the 0533 Cumfybus service 807 to Moreton (Pasture Road) that arrives at 0600 on Thursday morning.

We then head over to Moreton Cross where we board the 0704 First Chester & The Wirral route 38 to West Kirby (railway station), arriving there at 0714 on Thursday morning.

Time for a hot drink before entering the railway station and boarding the 0736 Merseyrail service to Birkenhead Hamilton Square that arrives at 0801 on Thursday morning.

We then board Merseyrail's 2C07, the 0814 service to Liverpool Lime Street, arriving there at 0820 on Thursday morning.

WE then go up the escalators and join the 0844 NT to Manchester Victoria, arriving there at 0947 Thursday morning.

We go to the art-deco exteriored former restaurant which now serves basic packaged fare for a "meal of sorts" and a hot drink, before making our way to the east-facing bay platforms to board the 1048 Northern service to Selby that arrives at 1250 on Thursday afternoon.

Time for a quick look round the Minster, before returning to the station for the 1407 NT to Hull, arriving 1452 Thursday afternoon

We have a lovely spot of afternoon dinner in Hull and a look through the city centre before boarding First Hull Trains' 1A96, the 1710 service to London Kings Cross, arriving there at 1947 on Thursday evening.

And on Friday morning, we board 1V48, CrossCountry's 0644 to Birmingham New Street, arriving there at 1007 on Friday morning.

We decide to take a westerly route that takes in much rural areas so we have enough time to change platforms and board the 1024 ATW service to Machynlleth that arrives at 1240 on Friday afternoon.

After a very leisurely lunch and a look round the ancient town of Machynlleth, we wait at the Cloc for the 1630 Arriva service X32 to
Tan-y-Bwlch, where we alight at the Oakley Arms at 1750, Friday afternoon.

It is a pity that this is January, as there are no Friday services of the Ffestiniog Railway at this time of the year, so after a walk to the area just to have a look, we return back to the bus stop at the Oakley Arms, where we board the 1839 Express Motors service X32 to Aberystwyth that arrives on Northgate Street at 2019 on Friday evening.

It looks like an early night in Aberystwyth, so we find a nice hotel and enjoy a leisurely dinner.
In the morning, we board the 0800 Arriva Cymru service 585 from Aber Bus station to Lampeter, where we arrive on the High St at 0921, Saturday morning.

We meet up with some medical students in the town who kindly agree to show us some of the area and we agree to go with them on the next leg of the journey, so we all board the 1125 Arriva Cymru service X40 that takes us to Glanwili Hospital, Tanerdy, arriving there at 1211 on Saturday afternoon.

We take the mere seven minute journey on the 1225 Morris Travel route 460 to Carmarthen (railway station), arriving there at 1232 on Saturday afternoon.

Just enough time for a hot drink before entering the railway station and boarding the 1302 ATW service to Manchester Piccadilly that arrives at 1815 on Saturday afternoon.

Was going to do a few more buses in the Greater Manchester area, but we've done a lot of that lately so I think I'll stick to trains, and do some buses later. Anyway, our next journey involves jumping on 1N69, which is First TransPennine's 1846 to Blackpool North, which arrives at the fabulous seaside resort at 2006 (slightly later than most other services throughout the day due to an additional stop at Lostock).

Blackpool in January, with a cold wind blowing off the Irish Sea, without even a tram to see, is not what it is later on in the year, so we board the 2029 Northern service to Bradford Interchange at 2217 on Saturday night.
