We now decide upon a short westerly cross country journey and board the 1445 First ScotRail service to Falkirk High that arrives at 1514 on Tuesday afternoon.

We then head back on 1R96 at 1552 back to Edinburgh, arriving there at 1619 on Tuesday.

That was a very quick return back from Falkirk to Edinburgh to see if we had left our bottle of single malt whisky there, but to no avail...it was gone...so we decide to cross the border southwards and board the 1636 Virgin Trains service to Birmingham New Street that arrives at 2050 on Tuesday night.

We then take a slow stroll through Birmingham city centre to Snow Hill station, where we then board 2J90 which is the 2120 London Midland service to Cradley Heath, arriving there at 2142 on Tuesday evening.

So we are at Birmingham New Street having just got off Paul's Virgin service at 2050, then we shall take 1M70 in the form of the 2057 CrossCountry service to Stockport, which arrives at 2225 on Tuesday evening.

Which is excellent timing to allow us to board the 2244 ATW service to Shrewsbury that arrives at 0004 on Wednesday morning.

We then wait a short while until boarding 1L48, the 0928 First Great Western service to Cardiff Central, arriving there at 1022 on Thursday morning.

After time for a hot snack and a drink, we join the homeward-bound commuters and board the 1724 Southeastern service to Rochester that arrives at 1822 on Thursday evening.

We grab a coffee to go nearby and do a quick spot of sightseeing before heading back to the capital on a slightly faster approach, that is to say 1F59, which is the 1857 Southeastern (HS1) service to St Pancras International, which arrives at platform 11 at the fabulous international terminal at 1936.
