Half an hour to spare to buy our latest railway magazines and to board the 1356 Virgin Trains service to London Euston, arriving there at 1538 on Saturday afternoon (when most of the football fans are securely ensconced within the confines of football stadiums).

Deciding to make a different directional move, we board the 1631 London Overground service to Clapham Junction, arriving at 1656 on Saturday afternoon.

And then, hoping we aren't late enough to get swallowed up by football fans from chelsea and the like, it's time to speed to Bournemouth on the 1712 SWT service, arriving at 1900 on Saturday evening.

Time for a hot meal and thankful that Bournmouth is not a Premiership club with many thousands of home and away supporters in for the match. What few there were have now departed. We board the 1945 XC service to Birmingham New Street, arriving there at 2248 on Saturday night.
Now from Birmingham New Street at 2253 on Saturday to Coventry at 2320.

Now, that's a little bit naughty of you, missing the name off of the train operator...and on your very quiz, too....:
We find ourself faced with a very long wait at Coventry on a Saturday night, but decide to retrace our last step, in the hope of finding an earlier Sunday train for the following leg, at a much bigger station that is all under cover, so we board the 2330 London Midland service to Birmingham New Street which arrives there at 0004 on Sunday morning.
We now have to remember that all future services onwards this day must be Sunday timetabled services.

At least we had a good breakfast before the last train set off, but we do not even time to buy a Sunday paper and we make sure that we are aboard the 1153 East Coast service to Edinburgh, arriving there at 1424 on Sunday afternoon.

Because so many people had began to name the TOC, it had seemed to be part of the quiz and I thank you as quizmaster, for clarifying the matter with regard to train travel.
What will be the situation regarding the coach and bus travel legs...will those operators now not needed to be named, but just the service number?
We need the next leg to be named, that will start on a Sunday after 1424.

If people include the bus or coach operator, it's easier to verify that the move was correct by going to the website of that company. For trains most (if not all) TOC journey planners will give you times for trains run by all TOCs. If you think that there should be a requirement to always list the operator though the rules could be changed.

After some sightseeing in the Scottish capital, it's back down "south" on the 1613 X95 First bus service to Carlisle, arriving at 1930 on Sunday evening.

A short time to stretch our legs after the last road journey, then it is into the railway station to board the 2007 Virgin Trains service to Birmingham New Street that arrives there at 2303 on Sunday night.
Not wanting to go to Coventry for the second night running, we instead board the 2315 London Midland service on Sunday to Longbridge. This arrives at 2335.

To arrive anywhere at 2335 on a Sunday night is not conducive to getting connections anywhere normally, but to find ourselves on the Cross City line at Longbridge at that time is something that Dante might have written about in "Paradise Lost". :roll:
There is nothing for it but to resign ourself to our fate and await the arrival of the commuters ready to go to work and we are eventually rewarded by the arrival of the 0602 London Midland service to Lichfield Trent Valley that arrives there at 0710 on Monday morning.

And an hour later, at 08.10, we've ambled over to the bus station and take the Arriva 60 to Burntwood, arriving at 08.22.

Staffordshire is a good place to be on a Monday morning and you feel sorry for those people who are having to work, unlike us who are free as a bird, with unlimited finance and time to go wherever we choose. Burntwood is a good connection point for a different directional ride by bus, so we board the following 0844 Arriva Midlands 60 service again, but this time to Cannock where we arrive at 0920 on Monday morning.

Just realized I'd confused Burntwood and Brownhills; wanted to get a go on the Chasewater Railway, not that they'd be running this time of morning.
(Shouldn't have confused the two, being as there are road signs to Brownhills all over Kenilworth due to an obscure quirk in British signing practices.)

Careless journey planning can lead you to strange places....more so by bus:roll:.....and I know lots of these!!! You will have to extricate yourself from Cannock the best way you can, preferably to somewhere with a railway station in its environs.

The 09.44 from Cannock rail station seems a good bet. We get off in Rugeley Town (more conveniently sited for buses) at 09.57.

And we walk into the city centre to take the NX Metro.
No fixed timetable, bbut let's say we leave St George's at 11.50 and arrive at the Jewellery Quarter at 12.22, just in time for lunch.

Realising that Jewellery Quarter has connotations in its name that my wife would find most appealing...but not my bank account...we board the 1245 LM service to Worcester Shrub Hill, arriving there at 1339 on Monday afternoon.

Oxford is worth visiting to see some of the famous seats of learning and we visit a restaurant to have a most enjoyable meal before boarding the 1817 FGW service to Hereford, arriving at 2027 on Monday evening,
