We next head to a station that offers many onward opportunities by boarding the 0836 LM service to Crewe that arrives there at 0938 on Tuesday morning.

We have time to obtain snacks and supplies before boarding the 09:57 London Midland service to Liverpool Lime Street, arriving at 10:44 Tuesday morning

Looking for a coast to coast run over the Pennines, we board the 1122 First TPE service to Scarborough that arrives there at 1429 on Tuesday afternoon.

We have a short amount of time to take in the sea air and views of the town and grab a sandwich and a coffee (assuming the station cafe is still open) before boarding the 14:54 Northern service to Hull, arriving at 16:24 on Tuesday

We next board the 16:40 TPE service to Selby, arriving 17:11 Tuesday afternoon

A journey back across the Pennines beckons and we board the 1800 Northern service to Moston that arrives at 2003 on Tuesday evening.

We decide to change the mode of transport and seek a journey on a local Manchester omnibus... No longer do we find the Orange / Brown GM Buses livery, swept away by corporate colour of the 'First' degree...

Using the stop outside the station we board the 20:25 First Manchester bus (service 149) and alight at Higher Crumpsall (Crumpsall Lane/Tram Stop) at 20:42 on Tuesday evening

At last we have a bus stop right outside a different mode of travel and another opportunity affords a ride on the Manchester Metrolink system, so we enter the former Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway station that is now the Crumpsall Metrolink stop and board the 2102 Manchester Metrolink service to Droylsden Metrolink stop (and temporary terminus) that arrives there at 2139 on Tuesday evening.

Wanting to get a photo of the tram departing this newly served location we observe the tram we arrived on as it heads back to the city and await the following service. We board the 22:02 Metrolink service and journey to the terminus at Bury Interchange arriving at 22:54 on Tuesday evening

Bury Interchange still has bus services running at this time, so ascending the escalator from the Metrolink platform into the bus station, we decide to visit the place where a very early experimental rail service was run to by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway very many years ago and board the 2310 First Manchester service 474 to Holcombe Brook (Hare & Hounds PH on Bolton Road West) that arrives there at 2323 on Tuesday night.

As we're too late to get a pint we wait for the next bus... Surprisingly we find another departure at this time of night. We board the 23:49 First Manchester service 472 to Bury Interchange arriving at 00:02 on Wednesday morning

Unable to return on the Metrolink tram that we arrived upon which is going back fast to Queens Road depot, we make ourselves as comfortable as possible then we look for a very early bus service and board the 0509 First Manchester service 471 to Captain Fold (Rochdale Road/Chamber House) that arrives there at 0525 on Wednesday morning.

We could cross over the road and return from whence we had come...but that would seem a bit pointless! We wait for the next bus to arrive in the same direction of travel - all too soon the 05:55 First Manchester service 471 appears, we board it and alight at Rochdale (Railway Station) arriving 06:02 on Wednesday

Noting that we are at the optimum place to change our mode of travel, we enter the railway station and board the 0624 Northern service to Manchester Victoria that arrives there at 0648 on Wednesday morning.

A trip to Merseyside is beckoning... So we join the 07:01 Northern service and travel to its terminus at Kirkby arriving 08:11 on Wednesday

We walk down the long platform, past the buffer stops that separate the two systems and board the 0828 Merseyrail service to Sandhills that arrives there at 0840 on Wednesday morning.

We watch a handfull of trains pass in the next 5 minutes or so before we join the 08:48 Merseyrail service as far as Aintree arriving 08:57 on Wednesday morning.

We decide to visit another terminal station on the Merseyrail 3rd rail network and board the 0912 Merseyrail service to Ormskirk that arrives there at 0929 on Wednesday morning.

We find that there isn't a connecting service on the non-third rail network for over an hour, so we await the next service back to Liverpool. We join the 09:50 Merseyrail service to Liverpool Central (Northern Line platform) arriving 10:20 on Wednesday morning.

A run over the 3rd rail system up the coast over the former Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway route now is indeed an obvious attraction and not one to be missed, so we board the 1038 Merseyrail service to Southport that arrives there at 1125 on Wednesday morning.

We could so easily meander back to Liverpool via the Merseyrail system, but decide a trip to the station bar at Stalybridge is in order. We board the 12:00 Northern service direct to Stalybridge arriving at 13:27 on Wednesday

We then board the 13:46 First Transpennine Express service to Manchester Piccadilly arriving there at 14:05 Wednesday Afternoon

A trip into the Peak District beckons...we join the 14:14 Northern service to New Mills Central arriving 14:43 on Wednesday

We have time to look at the special walkway bridge over the river below that was erected called The Millennium Walkway before returning to the railway station to carry on with our journey deeper into the delights that is the Peak District where many walkers are also joining us on this next journey and we board the 1511 Northern service to Hathersage that arrives there at 1540 on Wednesday afternoon.

We can do very little else, apart from admire the scenery of our surroundings as we wait for the next train. We board the 16:32 Northern service and alight at Edale arriving 16:46 on Wednesday afternoon
