We wait around Leigh for 01:30 First Manchester route 39 to Manchester Piccadilly Gardens, arriving at 02:20 on Sunday morning

Not too long to wait for the 0239 Stagecoach Manchester service 43 to Manchester Airport Interchange that arrives there at 0325 on Sunday morning.

We catch the first train out - the TPE at 0443 - and travel to York, arriving 0623 Sunday morning




I wasn't really grumbling, more like making a point. I know the journey goes where people want to take it, they just seem to take it to the same places on a regular basis.

Too often I'm trying to edge it in a particular direction and get taken somewhere entirely different. Part of the point I suppose.

After breakfast in York, we board the 0720 Transdev Yorkshire Coastliner 843 from opposite the station to Tadcaster Bus Station, arriving 0743 Sunday morning.

Time to seek out a breakfast before boarding the 0800 EC service to Doncaster that arrives at 0821 on Sunday morning.

Be fair, we have just used the 0239 Stagecoach 43 service through Wythenshawe, but if you think that I would make a stop off in Wythenshawe en route to the airport at that time of night, you are a much braver man than I....

Bit sneaky in not naming what day you arrived there..

Only a short time to wait on a Sunday morning for a direct service to another well-known West Yorkshire settlement and we board the 0900 First Calderdale and Hudderfield service 508 to Halifax bus station that arrives there at 1014 on Sunday morning.

We take the 11:40 First Calderdale & Huddersfield route 571 to Brighouse bus station arriving 12:03 Sunday

A short wait at the bus station and we board the 1225 First Calderdale and Huddersfield service 547 to Huddersfield bus station that arrives at 1249.

We decide to take time out to have a leisurely early lunch and head back to Huddersfield bus station for the 14:38 First Manchester route route 184 to Manchester Piccadilly Gardens, arriving at 16:23 Sunday

That connection gives us time to walk past Manchester's concrete monstrosity that is akin to the Berlin Wall and board the 1629 Arriva service 130 to Henbury (Blacksmiths Arms) that arrives there at 1742 on Sunday afternoon.


I can walk home from here via Henbury village (up Pepper Lane) and the other local lanes in 35 minutes...

We continue on the same service an hour later to Macclesfield Rail Station, arriving 1856 Sunday evening

Whether Henbury is a delight or a dump I've no idea, so no comment.

Henbury is quite a pleasant small settlement which is sought after by house-buyers.

Well assuming this is the 9 circular (I can't identify the precise stop - xx47 seems to be at Cross Street Sutton Close opp) we wait an hour and return once more to Macclesfield rail station, arriving 2052, Sunday evening

After a fun round robin to the camp of the enemy (those of you who know anything about me will know what I mean by that), we take the 21:35 Arriva North West route 38 to Crewe rail station, arriving 22:26 on Sunday

After finding a place for a meal, we board the 1337 Stagecoach Highlands service 52 to Armadale Pier that arrives there at 1403 on Monday afternoon

We catch the 1430 Calmac ferry to Mallaig, arriving 1500 Monday afternoon

I'm assuming this is legitimate - the island has a fixed link over which we arrived so it's the equivalent of crossing an estuary as we've done a few times before

As we've come this far to Armadale Pier, we might as well embark on the 1430 Cal-Mac ferry to Mallaig, arriving 1500 Monday afternoon.

We continue on the 1900 West Coast Motors coach service 918 and ride to Oban Station Road, arriving 2027, Monday evening

Not many travel options at this time of night so we spend some time near to the waters edge before booking into a hostelry where we ask for an early alarm call and a first-sitting breakfast and after a refreshing sleep and an excellent full Scottish breakfast, we make our way to the bus stop next to the station approach where we board the 0840 Scottish Citylink service 918 to Ballachulish (Tourist Office) that arrives there at 0939 on Tuesday morning.
